Summary
He doesn't know how long he's in this in-between state. It's like traveling through shadows, but without his control; drowning in the darkness, choking on the static ringing in his ears. He's more or less aware that what eventually brings him back up on the surface of consciousness after drifting away, though, is a loud banging noise. He shuts his eyes tighter. Is the battle still on-going…? Are those explosions? Are these pathetic remains of what was once his tower going to break into shambles too? Might as well, he supposes. What's getting buried alive in his state? Can it truly get much worse? Alastor just wants to sleep.
The noise comes again.
"Hey, Alastor? You there?" Ah- it's knocking. The voice from behind the door feels both close and far, far away. His ears are ringing. There's more knocking. "Alastor, if you're in there, please let us in- We wanna make sure you're okay!"

Or: After the fight with Adam, Alastor runs, with a wound on his chest and a wound on his pride. He hides away, no plan but for a hope that his attempt at patching up his injuries would be enough.
A certain princess doesn't let him deal with it on his own, though.

Summary
He's sitting on the elevator floor. He's nine years old.
He both knows exactly what will happen and doesn't know it at all. A part of him is nine years old, trembling lip and wide eyes trying to see anything in the pitch black and ears hurting from the more and more frantic yelling. A part of him feels small, confused and scared. A part of him doesn't know where this is going.
A part of him is twenty-six, knowing the turn of events by heart; knowing how it'll end from the very beginning, having relived it time and time again. He's trembling in fear all the same.

Except something is, because now he has Phoenix to support him through it all.

Flicking the light on with her elbow, Velvette walks over to the couch, setting the take out down on the coffee table. Straightens up, hands on hips. So fucking weird, this place to be so quiet. No TV playing in the background, no Vox doing paperwork at his desk, no Valentino already laid out on the couch, sketching something. No… nothing.
It's empty. It's quiet. It's…

It's not fucking empty.

Summary
It's 4:47 am, and there's shuffling coming from the living room. It's 4:48 am, and Franziska von Karma suddenly goes still; the door to the kitchen creaks as it opens, and in peeks Maya Fey. Maya Fey, squinting at the light and a bit disheveled, but surely awake as she looks at Franziska.
"Hi."
"Maya Fey." She answers, blinking at the girl in the door. Her hand goes still, where it just has been mixing the ingredients together; her mind feels weirdly blank as she meets the grey, tired eyes. "Did I… wake you?"
Maya snorts, shaking her head.
"Nah, don't worry about it- Force of habit, I guess."

Or: Maya Fey is staying over at Franziska's apartment for the night. Franziska doesn't mind that at all, and has no weird feelings related to it. The fact that she's up before 4 am baking chocolate cookies is absolutely unrelated to that, of course.
She... wasn't expecting Maya to be a morning bird too, though.

Summary
Hell is a place of punishment. No matter how numb to the brutality you get, no matter how much power you gain, no matter how much fun you have — in the end, it still serves to hurt you, first and foremost. So it's no surprise that death is no escape from sickness. Some sort of an annoying cold or infection simply has to ruin the fun every once in a while.
This is a fact that Velvette is painfully reminded of, as she barely pries her eyes open to the all too bright room, body heavy with exhaustion, throat burning, and the sound of the alarm piercing through her pounding head like a blade.
Oh, today is going to suck.

The Vees have the perfect reputation. The Vees don't show weakness. The Vees don't get sick.
...but sometimes they do, actually. And when they do, it's good that they have each other to fall back on.
