Jing Beiyuan moved to retreat. He pulled the door close behind them but then paused at the last moment. Through the little gap in the door, he saw Zhou Zishu looking in their direction with a kind of uncertainty Jing Beiyuan had never seen on him before. Zhou Zishu did not look at him but rather past him like he wanted to cling to the last glimpse of Wen Kexing walking out the door. His gaze, stinging with longing, was intense enough to burn holes into the wood.
