Summary
J'onn was worried. So far the morning had been quiet, uneventful which was never a good thing. Usually it led up to aliens attacking, prisoners escaping or, and his least favorite, personal issues. They could range from Alex's lack of a love life and the fact that she was very much crushing on a lady cop (no matter what she claimed) to Kara and James trying to find a new place to make out without getting caught. Honestly, the only one of his...family that didn't cause him a lot of stress was Winn.
Unfortunately, however, that hadn't been the case recently. Winn was currently dating an alien named Lyra. She seemed nice but something about her deeply unsettled J'onn and everyone else. Not only was she immune to J'onn's telepathy but Winn had turned into a shell of himself. He was jumpier than usual, he didn't hang out with them very much anymore and he had been sporting a fair amount of bruises and minor injuries lately.
All attempts to confront him hadn't succeeded, instead causing panic attacks which J'onn was sadly now well versed in helping him through.

reread this fic again after finishing 3 seasons of mmni and oh my god the references!! still as great the second time
would love to see a sub series of the characters/duos on adventures that were just briefly written about here — like annie and trev chasing chris and robert across time
currently rereading it and im stuck on this one chapter. i keep thinking cola would definitely be "played" by matt cavendish.. also ive finished mmni and hohr and starting apz

Schott like the sentimental value behind it all, but he couldn’t help but feel the slightest bit jealous of the two soldiers. Deep down in his core the bitter part of him told Schott to hate these two lovers, to despise them for being ever so happy while his life had constantly been hell. He hated it this feeling and quickly shoved it off as he made his way to the bar for a drink.

Charlie paid more attention to Emily. That was fine. It was. Just... Alastor and Lucifer were both bleeding on the ground, and she walked past them with barely a glance. Alastor was already pushing himself relatively upright, but Emily was an angel, and she was bleeding in Hell. It was fine that Charlie didn't even pause. It was fine. She was safe, and that's all that mattered. They'd survive. They always did. They had to.
Sometimes, though, they almost didn't.
