Summary
Hannibal set a cross of wood—cedar, pine, cypress, olive—against a wall. It towered over him. The man took his place in front of the cross, arms spread. His robes draped down from his arms, across his chest and legs. Hannibal would need to disrobe him. He did so reverently, stroking the skin of The Son as he peeled back the woven cotton. Tanned chest, arms, legs. Bared and unarmed, the man only blinked back at Hannibal. Here, now, Hannibal was God.
A young Hannibal is in Italy. He is alone, shortly after Mischa's death, and he is hungry.

Isha looks up and over. There are posters on the wall of the building and, yes, it’s… it’s the girl in front of her. She’s saying something but Isha doesn’t hear it. She was just about to be caught, again, and then this girl saved her. A real-life Janna or something.
But then, she’s off. Her cape is back over her head and the ends billow behind her as she walks away. She’s not going to the city center though–she’s going somewhere else.

The pan glinted in the light, a polished silver that smacked of operating tables and scalpels and the glorious instruments of life and death that he wielded with expert gentleness. A thin slice of liver—he cut through the cold thick of it and felt the fat in his hands. One slice, two, three. The knife slipped through the meat easily. It was tender and fresh. He smiled, just slightly, and dropped a piece into the pan. The butter sizzled, bubbling gold around the red meat, and crackling at its edges.

Harleen Quinzel lived in a normal apartment in Gotham, New Jersey. She worked as a licensed psychiatrist at Arkham State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. She wore normal clothes and ate normal meals. On the weekends, she went to a normal coffee shop. The biggest challenges she faced in life consisted of an occasional late night in the office, phone calls with her mother, and the check engine light in her car.
Women like her didn't become anything exciting. They didn't even think about it.

While their relationships, which are tinged by abuse, addiction, success, and pride, deepen over the decades, they are held together by Sherlock's devotion to John, a man scarred by an unspeakable childhood trauma. Beautifully tragic, with a devastating conclusion.
