And then he opens them, and out comes the sweetest honey. “May I have the next dance, Miss Sharma?” Kate’s mouth drops, and she feels a flush zip up her spine. Never mind that she really, truly does want to dance with this stranger, wants to feel those arms brush against her, his hands around her own, have him smile at her.
“What makes you think I would accept the offer from a rake as such as yourself?”
He tucks his chin to his chest, and the way his grin makes her heart thump is really, terribly, unfortunate.
“I assure you, Miss Sharma, any liberties shared with my sister are not as cunning or as evil as you are imagining, and what with my mother out hunting her this very moment, I believe there are bigger issues to worry ourselves over for Eloise's sake.” He finishes, leaning slightly in, “wouldn’t you agree?”
