He was, after all, the great deceiver, so it shouldn't have come as a surprise to her that his abilities facilitated his deceptions. But she supposed she hadn’t expected it in the same way she hadn’t expected any of this to happen, not really. She hadn’t expected to fail, she hadn’t thought that he would actually win, she hadn’t conceived that she could lose.
