Work Text:
Within the first three days of the radio show, Hizashi has his most frequent caller. He can tell the voice is young, but it ages, and he always has the best questions, ideas and theories. He’s definitely Hizashi’s favorite call-in, but he doesn’t expect to meet the kid. He mentioned early on in his calls that he’s Quirkless, and it always impresses him even more that the kid’s analysis is so good. Quirkless kids normally stay as far away from heroes and villains as possible, and this kid, who called himself Ku, gets close to fights, calls him, and seems to do the exact opposite of avoiding.
So no. Hizashi is never expecting to meet the kid.
And then he hears a familiar voice pipe up behind him as he’s writing on the board that first day in English. He looks over his shoulder at the speaker, and he’s got a lot of questions now.
Midoriya Izuku. Late bloomer with a super-strength Quirk. First kid to ever get in on just rescue points (sixty after defending Urakaka Ochako from the ‘Zero’ pointer). Apparently broken his arm doing that.
So Ku now has a Quirk.
Wait holy shit he has Ku in his class.
(He’s going to kill Shouta for not telling him, he knows his husband definitely already knew. Shouta always seemed to know more about Ku than he was admitting.)
The kid’s a common sight at Hawks’ fights, and he’s gotten used to it. His hair is a pretty distinctive green, and he’s always got a notebook in his hands, writing something down. He’s been tempted a lot to fly down and greet his little fan, but he’s wary of making the kid a target. Enough people had been dumb enough to try and target his Mom after all (and learned the hard way that it’s a terrible idea, she’s fucking vicious). So they’d definitely go after a civilian kid.
But still, Hawks is used to him, and he’s a bit disappointed when the kid (who’s dubbed Midori in his head and mentioned it to Mirko when she mentioned seeing him too) shows up to his fights a lot less. As if something is distracting him, and even more he’s tempted to fly down and make sure the kid is okay. He barely sees the kid once the school year starts up, which is a first.
Then he spots little Midori on screen at the UA Sports Festival.
Midoriya Izuku? Huh. He hadn’t been too far off with his nickname.
Now. Where are those work study offer papers?
(He’s got two offers to make apparently, because Tokoyami is also great and he wants both.)
Endeavor is used to a lot of things. How he can never catch up to All Might. How his children all hate him (but there’s a quiet voice that he likes to ignore in the back of his head pointing out he deserves that). How very few heroes want to work with him, and how often his sidekicks leave, claiming burnout.
But a more positive thing he’s gotten used to? The hero fanboy he spots at a lot of his fights. He’s heard rumors that a lot of the other’s have seen him, and Endeavor wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case (or that Hawks nicknamed him ‘Midori’). It’s still soothing to his ego to see the boy all the time, with his notebook out. He thinks the boy is the same one always calling in to Present Mic’s radio show (which he will never confess to listening to), especially after the time he’d given good analysis and criticism for a fight Endeavor had had two days earlier.
Still. For all the hero analysis. For all the times Endeavor’s spotted him.
He’s still not expecting to see the boy at the UA Sports Festival, and as a member of the Hero class. Definitely not expecting him to win the first round, come close to repeating it in the second, and honestly a bit concerned about him fighting Shoto in second round of Finals.
Especially after Midoriya manages to get Shoto to use his fire for the first time in years .
On one hand, delighted that Shoto used his fire. On the other, please tell him his son didn’t accidentally kill Midoriya?
(No death just broken bones and a too-stubborn boy, and him sending in a work study offer to go with Shoto’s. He is a bit curious about one thing though, after spotting the looks on a number of his fellow heroes faces.)
(Will Shoto or Midoriya have the most offers?)
Rumi figures out within five minutes of spotting the kid that he’s definitely both a) the kid always haunting hero fights and b) the one Hawks has nicknamed ‘Midori’. He’s practically got stars in his eyes watching her, and she can’t help but show off a bit. Give him a bit of a show and yes, he looks so happy.
Little Midori is definitely a hero chaser, but he’s one of the better ones, even if he does have a terrifying lack of survival instinct. Because she’s definitely spotted way closer to both her fights and a few of the others. Definitely too close to both Endeavor and All Might’s fights for her sanity. But as long as she hears him call in to Mic’s show, she’s not going to try and grab Midori and wrap him in bubble wrap.
That would be rude.
Seeing him at UA’s Sports Festival isn’t a surprise, but it does make her a bit gleeful (and oh god Hawks had been close on the nickname thing that’s hilarious). The kid is doing damn well too, and she suspects making very good use of his analytical skills. She’s kind of curious what happened during the first round of the finals, against the purple haired kid (Shinso Hitoshi, she thinks Present Mic said?) since she can’t quite tell, and sits up at his match with Todoroki.
Holy shit is he okay after that?!?! Midori definitely has to have both his arms broken, but UA has Recovery Girl to help with that, right?
She tilts her head thoughtfully, and she wonders how weird her sending in a work study offer will be? She knows she’s known for how little she likes working with people.
(She wonders just how many others are willing to make exceptions for the kid?)
Izuku’s eyes go huge at the sight of the massive stack of work study offers he has. Todoroki is the only one who comes close, and Kacchan looks like he’s about to have a fit, only the watchful eye of Aizawa-sensei stopping it. He looks around almost desperately at his classmates, because he has to have some of theirs, right? Why would so many heroes want him?
“Umm, Sensei? Are you sure these are all mine?” he asks, a bit faintly.
“Yes. Congratulations for having what I think is the most offers out of any UA student every,” Aizawa-sensei says. Izuku doesn’t know what his expression must be, but Aizawa-sensei sighs. “Midoriya. You do realize all those heroes who you’ve been watching fight over the year noticed you, right? That you are basically a legend at this point for how often you’ve popped up? Along with how you’re always calling in to Mic’s show?”
Wait, they’ve been noticing him? He didn’t know that!
He sits down in his chair with a soft ‘thump’, eyes still huge and starts looking through the pile.
...He thinks the only member of the Top Ten not in the pile is All Might.
Holy shit.
