Work Text:
When he got by a quirk he didn't immediately realise.
He was In the midst of a pride parade with most of his classmates, The result of an idea that was brought up by Yaomomo to make sure all of class 2A and himself were allowed to express themselves with the support of their friends.
Of course everyone (excluding Mineta) ended up coming, Bakugo expressing his annoyance about "having to hang out with you dweebs" yet still eventually caving in and agreeing to tag along.
In fact, the only reason he had any clue about the quirk he was under was because the owner of the quirk, a young kid who looked to be around 12, had instantly realised their mistake and frequently apologised proceeding to ramble on about the after effects.
If it had been anyone else, they probably wouldn't have understood a word flowing from the childs mouth but as Izuku was prone to his own fits of mumbling, he managed to make out all the important info before patting them on the head and telling them that it was all fine and that they didn't have to worry before agreeing to take a selfie with them infont of their enby flag and even signing it with one of Aoyama's glitter pens.
He knew that deep down this could become a problem. According to the kid, the quirk was a variation of both their parents quirks. Their dads quirk being a mind reading quirk and their mum having a lie detector type quirk. Combined, the effects of their childs quirk were as such: Anyone affected by the quirk would be under it's effects around 10 minutes after being hit with it from 8-12 hours. The results of the quirk were that if the victim were to lie then whoever they lied to would have the ability to hear their thoughts.
It was a pretty cool quirk and could definetly be useful he thought. Just not when it was being used on him.
Izuku didn't think this would be too big of a problem though as he was pretty open with Class 2A and now that the secret of OFA was out, he really didn't have much else to hide. Still, he thought it was best to tell someone he was under the influence of a quirk in case anything were to happen, so he decided to tell the person he could trust most.
Katsuki.

It was hard trying to direct himself towards Katsuki as the parade was crowded by people and flags all being happily waved around whilst music was blared throughout the streets. Eventually though he managed to find the spiky blond looking calmer than usual as a teen wrapped in the trans flag carefully painted detailed explosions framing the right side of his face with gold glitter shimmering around the outline, Izuku admired the work of the boy as he stared at Katsuki who now seemed to be returning his gaze with a raised eyebrow.
Izuku aproached the two, glancing at the sign that read "Raising money for top surgery. Facepaints £3 per perzon". He smiled to himself knowing that there must've been another reason Katsuki was getting his facepainted as it wasn't exactly 'In character'.
Katsuki grabbed the mirror from the boy, inspecting the right side of his face before turning to the boy with a wide grin.
"You've got some skill kid, this is fuckin awesome."
The boy just blushed at the compliments saying about how he loved to use art as a form of expression and how he also thought Katsuki was "pretty fuckin cool" before staring with wide eyes at the £40 that Katsuki passed over.
"Why'd you give me 2 £20's it's only £3"
The boy looked up in confusion as Katsuki got up to leave.
"You need it more than I do kid, thanks for the face paint. You better keep raising money for that top surgery. I know you can so don't give up because giving up is for losers"
The boy just smiled back equally as fierce with a glint to his eye.
"Thank you and don't worry, you're the only loser around here. I'm gonna earn all the money for my surgery just you wait!"
"Oi who said I was worrying brat."
Katsuki smirked at him before ruffling his hair and finally approaching Izuku who had been watching the whole exchange with a huge grin plastered to his face.
"Whats that face for you dweeb"
"Nothing, Kacchans just amazing."
Katsuki flicked him inbetween the eyes before chuckling and grabbing Izukus hand causing the other man to blush before following Katsuki through the crowd, desperately trying to keep up.
Katsuki had grown as a person majorly throughout the past two years, especially after the war. He now went to therapy sessions paid by the school once a week and had taken up art as a hobby. Not only that but his relationship with Izuku had reached a point that Izuku had only ever dreamed of, it was great to be able to call Katsuki his friend and it was even better to watch him laugh, turn red in embarrasment and occasionally even smile.
The rare smile was there as Katsuki dragged them on, there hands still tightly interlocked as they squeezed through the crowds of people.
They ended up in a bit of a clearing where people were dancing to the music together and before Izuku could question it, he felt Katsuki's arm wrap around his waist before spinning them both around. He tried and failed to keep up, clumsily stepping on katsuki's feet as the other just laughed.
Izuku just took Katsuki's hand, spinning the other man around as his face sparkled in the sun.
They came back together swaying slowly whilst the music blared in the background. Izuku lent forward laughing whilst Katsuki showed a genuine smile ruffling Izukus hair affectionately. The two of them stood entwined, smiling like dorks, Izuku trying to dance and Katsuki claiming he had 2 left feet.
Eventually Izuku dragged him off to a nearby bench knowing that he needed to tell him about the quirk. Katsuki just followed him, sitting next to him, their thighs and shoulders touching as Izuku turned to face him.
"Kacchan I um, I got hit with a quirk,"
Katsuki's concern began to show on his face as he asked,
"With what? Is it serious!? Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
It was nice to see the other boy showing his concern, which wouldn't have been there during middle school, Izuku simply held his hand.
"Don't worry about it, it's not serious but I'm telling you in case anything happens."
Katsuki just sat patiently, waiting for him to elaborate on it.
"The owner of the quirk said it was truth quirk of sorts but the actual effects of the quirk are that if I lie then whoever I lie to will be able to read my mind, It's a cool quirk I'll admit but I'll have to be wary of what I say, did you know that the average amount someone lies per day is usually 1-2 times but I saw a documentary saying that people might lie even more than that and even though the secret of OFA is out that doesn't mean that I necessarily wanna exploit all my thoughts and secrets, not saying that I have loads or anything but still-"
"Breathe"
"Sorry,"
Izuku rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly before turning back to katsuki with a sheepish grin. Katsuki took his hand and stood up dragging Izuku along With him.
"Don't worry dork, as long as I'm here it'll be fine. I'll make sure of it so just enjoy the parade with me."
Izuku looked at him, overwhelmed by the blondes care towards him as he led him to the main event.
"Thank you Kacchan, I appreciate it!"
"No problem, Izuku."

Izuku and Katsuki had been exploring the bright stalls and randomly initiating karaoke battles between themselves if a particular song sparked something between them.
Katsuki didn't sing all that often but that didn't mean he was bad. He could sound like a dying cat but to Izukus ears it would still sound amazing.
He walked off towards a food stall, Izuku trailing after him with exitement.
"Wanna get a bite to eat before the whole world witnesses you dweebing out," he chuckled, looking directly at Izuku.
"Us dweebing out Kacchan, you're just as guilty as I am"
"Yeah but no one would ever believe you nerd", he wasnt wrong but at least Izuku knew of Katsukis true nerdiness.
Katsuki began to order a spicy chicken yakisoba while Izuku decided to stick to a tofu burger (with extra spice now since Katsuki was the one ordering and insisted on them eating 'properly seasoned and spicy' food instead of sticking to Izuku's otherwise bland palate.) Izuku couldn't complain though because in contrast to what others thought, he did enjoy spice from time to time, he'd grown up with Katsuki after all.
They took their food and sat down on some hastily arranged picnic blankets provided on a patch of grass and began to eat in the silence of the music and although the whole street was a bustling party Izuku had never seen Katsuki so relaxed.
It was past 10 by now and people were starting to turn on fairy lights surrounding the streets. The bright orange highlited Katsukis cheekbones and eyelashes, eyes glowing as he stared up at the evening sky.
"The stars look nice tonight."
Izuku was too distracted with their close proximity, he could smell the chili in katsukis breath and couldnt help but be enamoured with his smile, complimented by the faint blush from the chill that rested on his cheeks.
"Whatcha looking at nerd?" Katsuki lazily smiled down at him, scooting closer as he awaited a response.
"The stars"
That was a lie.
*Shit*
"What was that?" Katsuki looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"What was what?"
*Shit shit shit*
"Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?"
*Oh shitttttt*
"It's the quirk."
Izuku frantically stood up pacing back and forth trying to keep his head empty but that was much easier said then done.
*Kacchan can here my thoughts, no big deal!
Its a big fucking deal what am I meant to do.
He can hear everything Im thinking right now,
Ill just stop thinking,
Easy
Totally
Easy
100% easy
Just gotta clear my mind
Ughhh
I can't just enjoy myself can I
It's always me
Ughhh
And it was going so well, now Kacchans gonna think i'm even more annoying*
"Not possible," he joked now standing right infront of me.
"Kacchannnnnn"
"Ok ok sorry, you're more tolerable than mineta, only a bit though"
Izuku playfully hit him before sitting back down with Katsuki beside him, sitting closer than he needed to on the blanket. His body temperature was the only thing keeping Izuku from feeling the cold and there was a faint sweet smell of nitroglicerin.
*The nitroglycerin smells sweet like caramel*
"Thats the first time someones described my quirk as sweet, of course it was you who would think that."
"What do you mean?"
"Well there arent many 'nice' connotations of a quirk built to hurt and destroy."
"But Kacchans quirk is beautiful, it saves lives and makes kacchan the best warm comfy pillow in winter!"
"Did you just call me a pillow?"
...
"No, I called you the best pillow!"
"This pillows gonna suffocate you in a second."
"A scary pillow then."

The two were too distracted with each other to see the lighting of the first firework and when it exploded Izuku lept in front of Katsuki, instantly ready to fight off a villain.
Katsuki grabbed Izuku pulling him up from the ground.
"Hey, calm down nerd, theres not gonna be villains, the whole things highly secured. Even if there is we'll be able to take them down, no sweat."
Izuku seemed to consider his words before slumping slightly into him, the momentary shock forgotten as the next firework lit up the sky.
"Kacchan they're so pretty!"
"Do you wanna get closer?"
"Oo sure-"
Before Izuku could finish his sentence he was dragged off the patch of grass and into the crowd forming further down the street, Katsuki only stopped when they were right at the front. Izuku was highly aware that they were now hand holding watching fireworks together.
*He's still holding my hand*
Katsukis face flushed and he quickly let go stuffing his hand into his pockets
*Wait no*
Izuku reached into Katsukis pocket and pulled his hand out, lacing their fingers whilst looking up, pretending to look at the fireworks whilst sneaking glances to his right.
*Hes so beautiful*
Katsuki looked shocked and red in the face Izuku was about to start apologizing when Katsuki turned towards him with a smile, face still dusted pink.
"You're one to talk, lookin like a fuckin angel under the light and you're tryna say I'm beautiful"
Izuku flushed covering his face with his hands.
"I look like a freckled bush stop lying!"
"I'm not, have I ever lied to you in the past 2 years"
*Probably not*
"Exactly nerd, own it"
"Ok, ok thanks" Izuku slumped over Katsukis shoulder a smile permanent on his face as he watched the fireworks.
Katsuki turned to rest his head on the curls, feeling exhausted from the day.
"I don't know why you put up with me zuku."
*Omgsgsg did he call me zuku*
"What do you mean by that?" Izuku asked slightly flushed from the nickname
"You could've hung out with anyone tonight and you chose to be with me"
*Its because it's you*
"But you could be hanging out with people who are kind and caring, why waste your time with me."
Izuku looked to his right, shocked at the others assumption only to find Katsuki staring right back at him guilt visible in his stance.
"You're one of the most caring people I know, just cause you show it in a different way doesn't mean I don't notice. I care about you Kacchan and I know that you care about me too, even after everything we've been through I know now that you'll look after me and I'll look after you. You'll forever be a part of my life, you're literally a part of me at this point." Izuku stared up at Katsuki, fluorescent lights reflecting off his eyes, the stars bright above them.
"Sounded like a marriage proposal dork."
"Might as well have been,"
"What do you mean by that?" Katsuki asked with badly hidden curiosity and a blush now permanent on his face and ears.
*I love you*
Izuku covered his mouth in shock as an attempt to silence the unspoken words but the look on Katsukis face told him that he was well aware of his confession, stepping closer under the dim light to look him in the eyes.
"You.. love me?"
"Shit, sorry, Im sorry ugh,"
"Why are you sorry?" Katsuki brought a hand up to cradle Izukus face, warming his palms slightly in the evening breeze. Izuku unconsciously leaned into it, guard completely let down.
"I didn't mean to spring it on you, i mean, I kinda planned on keeping it a secret for, well, forever."
Katsuki stepped closer so that their chests were touching and rested his forehead on Izuku's
Izuku could feel Katsukis breath on his lips as his eyelids fluttered closed.
"And why would you want to do that when we both know it's impossible for me to be without you"
"Are you saying that-"
"- I love you, yes"
Fireworks went off, quite literally, around the two as their lips touched, each yearning to get impossibly closer. Izuku slipped his hand through Katsukis hair pulling him impossibly closer and tugging at his lip with his teeth as the kiss deepened. They pulled away panting as they remembered to breathe, Katsuki proceeding to kiss every freckle he could find on Izukus face.
They eventually seperated, still staying as close as possible as Izuku combed his fingers through Katsukis hair, Katsuki leaning further into the embrace.
Katsuki looked down into Izukus eyes, the night sky refected over the dark green irises which glowed with contempt.
"The stars really are beautiful."
