Sorry for not updating. I moved to Australia, got dropped in the middle of Sydney and am now trapped there because the job I was promised when I got here didnt hire me. It was funny to Rumi, how the same stone steps and paint chipped wall looked so different than they had just six months prior.
That hadn't been the first time she visited the rustic looking place. As a child, with Selene, she enjoyed hopping up the steep steps. She enjoyed being picked up and placed on the cold cobblestone wall so she could look at the houses below.
It was a harrowing reminder that she needed to be her best. That she had to hide everything she was. She was fighting to keep people safe from demons.
But wasn't she always one of them? She had patterns too? And the way Selene refused to actually look at her…
I tried to hide, but something broke.
This place had a lot of terrible memories.
But Jinu gave her something good here. Something freeing. This place was the first step to where she finally felt like she could be herself.
Derpy nudged her, dragging her from her thoughts. The way he forced the top of his head into her hand made Rumi giggle. For a demon, he was basically a lazy, curious, house cat.
“Sorry Derpy.” She smiled down at him. “I was just thinking about Jinu.”
He blinked at her, one eye at a time, his mouth slightly opened.
“Yeah, you're right.” Rumi laughed.
She took a step forward.
Every moment of her life she had continued forwards. This was just another step she had to overcome.
“Come on, Derpy. Let's hope home.”

“Rumi, you can't do everything yourself. You know we are here for you. Zoey and I will always be here for you.”
Rumi peeked in the door, not totally sure what she should be expecting. Maybe a small part of her expected the apartment to be trashed. A piece of her thought she would be walking into a showdown between the youngest Saja and her sweet and vibrant maknae. Maybe she even thought that they would just calmly be sitting on opposite ends of the room, not necessarily talking.
But she was greeted to an empty living room, lamp on the end table turned on, TV off, Zoey's switch discarded on her normal spot on their oversized couch- which had been a great purchase for the short cuddle sessions they enjoyed after a show.
But Zoey and the youngest Saja were nowhere to be found.
“I know we didn't have your back at the idol awards. I don't know why we couldn't just trust you. We've known each other for so long.”
“Uh, Zoey.” She called out, forcing herself out of her own mind. It was a dangerous, treacherous place to be. “I thought you said Baby Saja was here.”
Zoey popped out from the hallway, hair unpinned and wet- as if she had just stepped out of the shower.
“Oh yeah. About that. Well you see.” Her voice tapered off, hands finding their way to her pajama shirt to fiddle with the hem, like she often did when she was anxious. It wasn't something that very many people got to see, but Rumi knew the signs. She knew every one of Zoey's quirks. All of her habits.
“Yeah?” Rumi raised an eyebrow at her, prompting her to continue because she was sure that Zoey wouldn't without some kind of verbal command.
“Well, I got him here. Put one of my favorite cartoons on for him and gave him something to eat.” She stepped closer to Rumi, hands still playing lightly with the fabric. “But he took off out the window as soon as we finished cleaning up.”
“The window?” Rumi breathed. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Then she took a step closer, opening her arms. Zoey often needed her love to be shown physically.
“I'm really sorry.” Zoey all but fell into her embrace. Not even a second later Rumi encircled her, holding her close. “I had no idea he would just bolt. The dude's famous, I didn't think he just wanted a free meal.”
“Let's be real Zoey.” Rumi tried not to chuckle. “How many of those game shows have you cheated on just to win some kimchi or japchae?”
“Don't use my love of banchan to get me to confess to something I didn't do.” Zoey choked out a laugh, shoving her face into Rumi’s shoulder. “I'm sorry I messed up.”
“You didn't.” Rumi lifted her hand to pat down Zoey's hair. “I wouldn't have thought that he would bolt either. I didn't even think, on my way home, that it was a possibility.”
