Will could— God, it’s so much more than that, though. It’s the fact that Mike isn’t alone, that there’s someone else in Hawkins like him, but also - it’s Will. Mike’s thoughts are stumbling over each other, too fast for him to keep up. It’s Will, who’d held his gaze the whole time, even as he said he had a crush on someone who wasn’t like him (Mike had wanted to scream back that he is like Will, but the room had been far too full of people, and he can’t get this far without finding a reason why this person isn’t him, and besides, Will said he had a crush. Mike’s never been anything but late.) It’s Will, who’d seen Mike’s eyes well up with the same tears that threaten to come back again now. It’s Will, who always has been and always will be infinitely braver than Mike.
