Summary
The Avengers were back together, legalized and forgiven of everything that’d happened with the Accords. At least the outside world had forgiven them. The more Bucky learned, the more he realized they would likely never be able to forgive themselves.
First and foremost, Tony Stark had never made it back from Siberia.

Summary
A darker version of the world in which Ultron wins, the Avengers lose, and Tony learns the meaning of "be careful what you wish for". The hard way. Tony and Bruce create Ultron as a peacekeeping asset which backfires in the most horrifying way possible. Ultron is a master manipulator and the mess in Sokovia is really just part of a larger power-grab. With the world in a headlock, a guilt-stricken Tony surrenders to Ultron and it’s pretty much all downhill for Stark from there.

Summary
Tony Stark knew who his soulmates were since he was 4, the Red Silver and Blue Shield cruelly marked on him. It was one of the few things that Howard Stark couldn’t touch or change, so Howard made his marks in other ways.
It wasn’t like Steve or Bucky would ever know, they were dead.
Tony had been dealt the worst hand fate could think up, someone somewhere obviously hated him. He had two soulmates who’d been dead for 25 years before his birth. A father who was in the running for worst parent of the century. The names of two men he couldn't help but love, but Howard made sure he was reminded at every turn that he was worthless, Captain Rogers and Sergeant Barnes would've never spared him a 2nd glance.
By the time he was 12 Tony was glad Steve and Bucky were dead, they were better off having never known him, he'd have only disappointed them.
He'd given up the fantasy of having a true or real romantic relationship long ago, hidden behind the mask he played into the media, they were going to say what they wanted about him, he'd learned to not care.
Until Captain Rogers showed up, he didn't care; he couldn't. So why did it hurt so much "Big man in a suit of armor. Take that off what are you?"

NOTE: Due to RL this work was originally on hiatus until May 2020, but then there was a global pandemic and personal tragedy. I still have tons of notes to bring this to a close, but am behind where I'd hoped to be before COVID. The last chapter here isn't a cliff-hanger, and even has a bit of a resolution, but there is still story to be told. I'm not sure when I'll be able to write and post again. My new plan is not to post anything more until the whole bloody fic is DONE. To which end, cheer leading welcome and patience appreciated! :)

Natasha poisoning Pepper to get a job as Tony's PA was too much for him. He destroys SHIELD, with Pepper he takes over the world, the Villains decide they want to join Tony's team because his is more fun, and brings down the couple of Avengers who aren't spies for Tony.

Summary
Tony knew better than to play with alien toys. He really did. But there was just something so tempting about other-worldly objects. It turned out that he wasn't the only Tony Stark that felt that way. One explosion later, there's a brand new Tony in town. But there's something not quite right about this Tony and how he reacts to the team, the way he flinches away from Bucky or shakes when Steve picks up the shield or won't turn his back to Clint and Natasha.
It turns out that not every Tony Stark is as lucky as Tony, but damned if Tony, Steve and Bucky aren't going to fix that.

"I’d like to file a formal complaint!” Steve announced a few days later, stomping into the kitchen and leveling one of those patented All American scowls in Tony’s direction. “Why would you give Bucky a kitten? The damn thing is like a hairball of knives! PLUS he named it Steve! Bucky named that piece of fuzz Steve cos he said it acts like me before the serum!"
"You before the serum.” Tony had to work very VERY hard to keep his face calm. “Why– why ever would that be?"
"Because its tiny and scrappy and it’s mouth is too gotdang big for its size!” Steve yelled. “Bucky gave it a bath and then took a picture and sent it to me! He said Kitten Steve looked like a drowned rat just like Human Steve used to!"
“Uh yes, good morning?” Clint also stuck his head into the kitchen. “I’m here to file a formal complaint? Bucky is teaching Kitten Steve to hunt birds and if that mangy cat takes out any more of my hair, I will be billing Stark Industries to pay for a toupee, alright?"
"Oh good I’m so glad Kitten Steve is catching on.” Steve muttered.
(Or: Tony gets Bucky a kitten and shenanigans and falling in love ensue)

Tony brings home a cantankerous kitten for Bucky. The kitten, named Kitten Steve, and nicknamed murderous floof, hates everyone but Bucky, and maybe Tony. The kitten maliciously attacks Sam, and particularly Clint, but Bucky loves it. Tony tries to explain his love for Bucky to Pepper.
