All her life, Akiyama (Willow) hasn't felt quite like she belonged, as an obviously hāfu (half-Japanese) lady with red hair whose mother might have been a respected researcher, but whose friends were the daughters of powerful yakuza. Who had half welcomed the disownment so that she would stop living in limbo. Whose magic studies earn her respect, and 'other' her further. It only makes sense that learning her mother is dying would be a complicated, uncertain mess, but at least she has one of her best friends back again.

That he knows the loss is mixed up with hatred and relief, but is still pure in the way it pierces something fundamental inside of him, and he gets it. He just never tells anyone.
But then there is Eddie Munson, with a wickedness that feels wholesome and warm and slowly, Steve is starting to think he might want it. He just doesn’t think he can figure it out without first figuring out how to let go of Billy.
