The girl blinked up at Deku, whose brows were knit in concern, green eyes shining as he set his water bottle aside to watch her, turning to more fully face the girl. He’d just come back from running, she knew. He was always out and running.
He must be tired.
But here he was in the kitchen, watching her and asking her if she was okay. And it was really...really sort of weird. Eri didn’t really know how to feel about it. It made her sort of happy and sad at the same time because...
Deku was the first person to ever ask that.
And he was the first person she believed when they said they cared.
Yes, she knew that others asked if she was okay too. Aizawa and Yamada and Shinsou and Mirio were good askers. They cared. They smiled like Deku did. They hugged like he did too.
But Deku had always been the first.

Another burble of panic rumbled in his chest.

“No, oh no it’s not...that,” Izuku was hasty to reply, his hands coming to wave out in front of him, emerald eyes going wide as he realized his mistake. Shouta let out a small sigh, easing back into his chair as he stared back at Izuku, not fully trusting the boy’s reaction.
Because they both knew that Izuku was good at hiding things. Lying? No. Downplaying the severity of a situation, especially a dangerous one? Yes.
“Then what’s wrong?” He remarked softly after a minute, willing his heart to stop hammering so forcefully against his chest. “What can I do to help?”
“I, uh…” Izuku rubbed the back of his neck, trying to consider his words, sucking in a small breath as his eyes strayed to staring at the wall just behind Shouta’s head. “I...that is I overheard Shinsou talking and...I just… I’m hoping that I could...that maybe you could help me with a...project?”
A project?
That...didn’t make sense. Not in the slightest.

Everything was going great! He became the successor of All Might, his idol. He got into UA and is on his way to becoming the greatest hero in the history.Then it all comes crashing down.
With All Might death, the collapse of society, HPSC blaming spree, and a few press conferences later, Midoriya Izuku realised that he was wrong.
Reaching to an old phone he kept locked in the drawer, reaching to the alternative that he thought he had left behind.
He genuinely wants to be a hero. Yet, he realises, he might need a different approach.
This doesn't mean he is going around tearing the system down, it's already broken enough.Because as much as this world has hurt him, Midoriya Izuku wants to make the world a better place.

Izuku learns a lesson about his own self-care, when someone else cares for him.

The boy’s eyes always tended to give him away.
They were shining, of course, bright and vibrant in their intensity and joy, and matching his classmates in that respect and looking a tad more rested than he had the days prior (which was a small relief for the man).
However, beneath the almost forced cheer he could see something…
A flicker and glimmer of something unpleasant, unhappy.
A hurt that the boy seemed either unaware of (unlikely) or trying to ignore.
And it was the same look that Todoroki and Shinsou both had sometimes too, that haunted sort of shadow that filtered through when they thought people weren’t paying attention to them.
Shouta didn’t like that look, especially in the gazes of children.Series

Perhaps it had been those hesitant flashes of fear and worry and longing flickering in his gaze, faint but ever-present.
Only seen by a perceptive observer.
Like Shouta.
Perhaps it had been Hizashi’s concerned gaze as he listened to Eri make suggestions for Shinsou’s sweater, much to the boy’s bewilderment. Another cat, she’d decided.
Perhaps it had been a number of things that provoked Shouta to lean forward, a hand coming to rest on the sweater still in the boy’s hands, watching as emerald eyes locked onto him, unabashedly confused and intimidated (judging by the reaction he received).
Or perhaps it had been the kindness that he’d seen Midorya give towards Eri. The same kindness he seemed confused by when it was extended towards him.
And that broke something in Shouta’s resolve, provoking him to move and to act and to do…Series
