Summary
Inspired by Keferon's 'Mecha pilot Jazz AU' and all the additional fanart and fics that popped up. These are short snippets of things that happened on Earth pre-canon and during canon events of the au, featuring a cast of different characters. For more info, check the au on tumblr.
Basically a lot of content has appeared on this AU and I am loving every second of it! I couldn't help myself but write this short story here and a few more ideas in the future. I don't usually write Transformers but I want to put my idea into words. Some chapters and characters will be connected but it will mostly be different ideas bundled together without that much overarching plot or a consistent timeline. Almost every chapter could be read as a stand-alone.(I lied, to you and myself. There is some plot now in some chapters. I put way too much connection and references to not be connected. I still plan to write different ideas and alternative scenarios, but yeah, the plot bunnies are spreading.)

Bumblebee after many years post war has reached a point in his life where he feels content with what he has. After Cybertron’s destruction, then everything that happened on Earth, to everything that happened post war from human threat to Heatwave becoming Prime, he’s happy with what he’s got.
Unfortunately things aren’t always going to stay stable. And when a massive destructive event leaves him stranded on Earth having to take care of a group of kids with the help of bots unknown while facing enemies that have been put out of time and space by the sins of Cybertron’s prewar era, with no way to contact anyone, old feelings and new threats are what he must face.

We all know how the story goes, correct? We learn about Overload, the dramatic, talented and - let's be honest with ourselves - vane Decepticon spy, who was trapped in stasis in the prisoner ship, the Alchemor. The one who fought Optimus Prime, the one who lured Bumblebee - Optimus' s loyal scout - to a trap that resulted in his voice box being ripped out. Now, thanks to the crash of the ship on Earth, he is free to cause mayhem.
But... What if things went differently? What if he didn't later join Steeljaw's pack of other Decepticon prisoners? What if he joined (he can claim that he remained neutral all he wants, I, however, am not THAT blind) our titular main characters in their shenanigans and battles? Forced to reflect on a past he thought he had made peace with? And how would his actions affect the others? -

There was indeed a door. Beneath a layer of dust, Jazz also found the terminal used to open it. It was covered with a mock rock, making it barely visible. The corresponding code was also the one for the high-security areas.
Jazz opened the door, and they found another corridor with cells directly behind it. Only five, plus an administrative office. Apparently, it was really just a wing for special cases, to better separate them from the rest of the facility.
Ironhide went ahead and inspected the office, but here, too, everything had been cleared out. Meanwhile, Jazz looked into the cells, which varied greatly in size. All empty. He turned around, then saw that there was a sixth cell at the end, very small and around a corner; he almost hadn’t noticed it. Jazz went over and looked inside, whistling softly through his teeth.

He hadn’t meant to fall for the con, but something about them just made him feel right.
Maybe it was the way he looked at him, maybe it was the way he felt when chop shop deemed him as useful, not a bother or a nuisance, or perhaps it was how he was treated as one of them, being given fuel and listening to their conversations despite being taken prisoner.
It felt nice finally being able to be part of something, without feeling like you’re just an observer. And wouldn’t you know, Chop shop was quite the listener as well. Any knowledge he had rambled about inner machinery of a shuttle was listened to and taken into account. At one point he had even been praised! By a decepticon of all mechs but still. It felt nice.

With a new frame, new alt-modes, and even a new designation, Knock Out is smuggled onboard the Lost Light, a massive starship captained by Rodimus Prime in his quest to locate the remaining Lightbearers (and maybe the Knights of Cybertron, too, while he’s at it). Integrating himself into the Autobot team of Unit E had been difficult for Knock Out, but fitting in with Rodimus Prime’s band of merry misfit mechs will prove to be an even greater challenge as he and the crew of the Lost Light barrel blindly into space in hopes of finding the Light before the Darkness sets in.
