Summary

The chief of staff doesn’t believe in such things, the queen is older and forgetful, she takes things. They are her things, she’s the queen after all, it’s not like it’s stealing. It’s easier to keep replicas on hand, it’s not worth anyone being accused of a crime for something the queen doesn’t remember. But the maid has heard a giggle and felt something unseen brush past her leg in the hallways.

Growing up, Henry never wished for anything when he blew out the candles on his birthday cake.
He’d close his eyes, grip the table in front of him tightly and try not to spit on the cake when he blew out the candles, because Grandmother would disapprove. In fact, Grandmother seemed to disapprove of pretty much everything that Henry said, or thought, or even did. Even when he was trying to be good.
But needless to say, with all that pressure of trying to blow out his birthday candles the “proper” way, Henry had little time to think about wishes. So every time that Dad asked him what he had wished for, Henry always just said “I can’t tell you, or my wish won’t come true.”

He'll do anything for his sister, however, so he shows up at Henry's brownstone a couple of hours later anyway. It doesn't take long for Alex to find out he might have been wrong about Henry. He might actually be worth getting to know better.
