They are no stranger to events like these, Henry and Nora are there, and although she is running unexpectedly late, their POTUS mother is in route. Plenty of the seats were already filled, so Alex chose a random seat in the middle of the room and pulled his laptop out of his messenger bag, setting it on the small desk next to his iced coffee. He mindlessly set his bag on the chair next to him and started to scroll through the syllabus on his laptop. 10 minutes into class, they were all still waiting for the professor to arrive, some students starting to chat and joke. Alex takes a hard turn on his career path and leaves the place he thought he would end up staying. Giving himself a new chance that he’d be lying if he didn’t admit was at least partly because he didn’t think he could have the other things he wanted where he was.
He ends up loving what he does though and it brings him back to that same place years later. That same place where Henry still is, and where Alex can’t avoid seeing him.
Eventually he starts to hope again and things work out even better than he thought they might.
