    Slowly, Nezuko cracked her eyes open. To a certain extent, she already knew this, but hearing Zenitsu say it out loud was different. It was intimate, and vulnerable, and Nezuko looked at the side of his face and wished that she could say she felt the same—like she had been stripped bare, able to lay out everything in her soul and let him try to put it back together.

    But she couldn’t. Her soul was held together by the iron running through her veins, but even that was weakening under the intensity of the anger that boiled deep inside her blood. If she let any part of herself out into the open air, she might finally crack, she might finally explode. And she didn't really want to watch another person that she cared about get caught in the crossfire.

    If anyone had ever asked Zenitsu such a question, he would not hesitate to speak his own name. He hated himself practically more than anyone or anything in this world. How could he not when time and time again, he has done nothing but fail those he learned to love? Over and over, his eyes bore witness to the blood that spilled, his ears picking up the caws of the crows about the recently deceased. Zenitsu hated himself so much, but not even killing himself has fixed the dark clouds that haunted him.

    He could barely believe that this had all started because of a mountain and poison…

    Maybe that's why she hated people like Her. Who knew exactly how they were hurting others, but continued anyway.

    She was just another person who hurt Zenitsu-kun.

    It was fine, though. She was there to pick up the broken shards.

    And she always would be.

    "No matter how many times you fall, Zenitsu-kun, I'll always pick you up."

    Zenitsu-kun didn't deserve anything less.

    But none of that mattered to Tanjirou, because all he could see was the lone man standing just in front of the tree.

    He had long, golden hair which flowed like a river down his back and over his shoulder. It was tied up neatly into a tail with a white ribbon, and every other second when the breeze picked up, threads of gold flew in the wind. Wide eyes looked at him in surprise, and Tanjirou was distressed to realize that there were tears in them, pooling slowly at the bottom before dripping over pink cheeks. Full lips were spread open slightly in a surprised gape, and when Tanjirou blinked, he realized that the person he was staring at was a man who looked more beautiful than anyone else he had ever seen.

    The man in question had his hand raised slightly, finger arched in a small curl, and resting on it was a white butterfly, and when Tanjirou glanced down at his waist, he almost gasped as he saw the shiny handle of a sword and a demon slayer uniform under a sunny yellow haori.

    “Hello?” The man said.

    Please marry me, Tanjirou wanted to say, but instead he said, “hello!”
