Now, if you're wondering how and why Phainon was in this situation in the first place, the answer is rather simple. He said “fuck you” to his main task and ditch it for a moment and just take a vacation for this timeline because trying to save the timeline over and over again is quite taxing. The only thing he didn't took a count for was how far in the fucking past he went by just opening a rift and went in.
Imagine his fucking surprise when he was met with Nikador who was not eroded with madness, pointing their spear at him.
In which Phainon time travelled a little TOO far back to the past, say "fuck it. I'm taking a well deserved break" and become a librarian and archivist who write the ENTIRE history of Amphoreus. He also changed a lot of things. Both willingly AND unwillingly.

Summary
Phainon, despite his best efforts, has gone years without meeting Mydei's mother. Thus far, he has only been able to get to know her through his boyfriend's words and gossip from fellow attorneys—neither of which are particularly unbiased. Now that he finally has the opportunity to make her acquaintance as Mydei's partner, he comes to the terrifying realization that she is probably the only person in the world whose approval could make or break their relationship. It's obvious that Mydei values her opinion more than anyone else’s; it’s no exaggeration to say the future of this relationship hinges on receiving her blessing.
So, yes, Phainon feels it is well within his rights to be scared shitless to meet this near-mythological figure in Mydei’s life for the first time.
