Visiting Hawkins was supposed to be an easy thing despite the hell that broke out here last year. Will comes to spend his summer break here to return to the life he knows the most and he couldn’t be more hopeful about possibly getting closer with Mike again after their friendship faded with shorter and shorter letters. Getting to sleep at his house for the next two months only strengthens his hopes of one day being liked back by him.
There are just a few things that concern him: the party acting strange around each other and El’s mission to find him a girlfriend during the next two months.

He looked back up into his eyes. The same eyes he had looked into on their last day together.

"We need to talk," Lucas says quietly, breaking the silence after a long moment. He looks at Mike, his expression unreadable. "About what we saw. And what that thing knew."
Nancy meets Mike's eyes in the rear-view mirror. Her gaze is hard, questioning. Distrustful.
"Woah, woah!" Mike throws his hands up, nearly hitting Will as he recoils from their accusatory stares. The guilt is still burning in his chest, but defensiveness is a quicker shield. "Guys, I don't know what he was talking about! I thought the shadow was all in my head and lied about that, yes, but I'm not hiding anything else!"

Will doesn't speak. He decided to stop using his voice for his own personal reasons, but slowly, he starts to think that maybe it wouldn't be bad at all if he decided to use his voice again. Maybe that talkative boy– Mike, from Creative writing, might be the first person to prove him he was wrong about that part of himself.
