Hi, Juniper here. The divergent story of FMA 2003 has fascinated me for a long time. My friend and I discussed it after my most recent rewatch of Brotherhood, and I asked them what they would change if they were making a third Fullmetal Alchemist storyline. This is my answer to my own question.

Summary
After the traumatic events of the Bloody Banquet, Saran (the once-celebrated Warrior of Light) is forced to flee north to Ishgard. While welcomed with seemingly open arms, it is not long before she finds herself in grave danger—a victim of the city’s long-running “tradition” of the upper class. To be kidnapped, sold and forced to serve the highest bidder.
And that bidder happened to be the one she prayed would be her savior.

I seriously thought this up while thinking up some of my own WoL lore and decided that Ishgard is already quite corrupted with their harsh theocracy and classism. Surely that means a long-standing underground slave trading ring operating for/by the highborns would make sense. Right?…

“Why—why, God?!” he hisses under his breath, voice barely louder than the crackle of the lanterns as he walks the perimeter of the campsite. “You hate me or something? Why out of all people did I have to end up as the background character in a game that’s not even finished?”
The circus caravans sit quietly for now, wheels half-sunk into the dirt from travel, paint peeling from too many roads and too many promises. Canvas tents are still being raised farther in, stakes hammered into the ground with dull, rhythmic thuds. It’s early—before everything. Before names turn into legends. Before stories rot into warnings.
“Thank the lord I haven’t met them yet,” he mutters, rubbing his gloved hands together more out of nerves than cold. “So if I do… just don’t screw it up. Don’t be a total abusive dick.”
