It wasn’t necessarily malicious — she had also been reaching for a cupcake, and she tended to growl at everyone when it came to food — but Theo flinched away as if he’d been burned, and something inside Liam snapped.
The booming snarl that echoed through the house had every conversation freezing in its wake.
He blocked Malia’s line of sight with his own body, fangs bared and eyes flashing gold, and the continuous rumble that vibrated through his throat was anything but relaxed and calm.
“Don’t you fucking growl at him,” Liam barked, his hackles rising when Malia just gave him an incredulous look, her eyes flaring blue in a mirror of his.
“I can do whatever the hell I want,” she snapped back, pulling herself up to her feet, lip curled in a defensive snarl that had Liam’s threatening growl increasing in volume and Scott rushing to intervene before anyone brought claws into the equation.
