Summary

But for Shang Qinghua, he and Airplane were "late bloomers". And in a small town like his, it was a hot topic for gossip. Yet just before entering college the unexpected happened. Shang Qinghua's Daemon swapped with that of his Soulmate. However unbeknownst to Shang Qinghua, he didn't have just a single Soulmate. He had two. So close yet so far, the three will do anything to find their missing half. Though how will they react upon finding out that instead of halves, they're looking for thirds?

Dammon shudders through the grass, underbelly slick with the blood of the girl he's been slip-sliding in. Will tastes it on his own tongue when his daemon's flutters out, flicks against the girl's still-oozing arm.
She tastes like bird, hisses Dammon. Bird and creepy-crawly-clicky things. Birds and static.

Summary
rumi wasn’t born with a grudge against her soul; they used to be inseparable (two halves of one whole). she supposes most people still feel that way- after all, your daemon is part of you; someone to journey through life with and share in every high, comfort in every low.
it’s just that rumi, and atlas, tend to have a lot of lows and only so much comfort. over the years their differing opinions do more to turn them against each other than not. rumi is obsessed with keeping their secrets, no matter the cost. atlas is sick of living in her shame, finding no fault in either of them.
what must it feel like to be so torn in two? to have such an internal struggle given a voice?

If he had it his way, that part of his life would be completely erased from existence, forgotten and left to rot. Eira makes that near impossible with her knowing eyes and bared fangs, hackles raised as she hissed at him to ‘never forget where we came from, never forget who we lost.’ Dust longed to let go of his past. Eira fought to hold onto it even if she detested her old name and still panicked at the sight of another badger shaped daemon.

In quick moments of panic, he stares in startled terror at his daemon who stands before him in a different body bearing a different name. And unlike Killer and Dust, Horror finds himself sometimes longing for the days when he’d been Sans, for the days when Antheia had been Danita.

X-Tale had been one of the few universes that didn’t have daemons. XGaster had seen them as a weakness, a hindrance, an imperfection and thus had written them out of the code completely. When X-Tale collapsed leaving behind Cross and Chara, they learned through Ink what daemons were. Both had been intrigued by the concept but hadn’t really thought too much on it. When Ink stopped visiting, when they were forgotten and left behind they screamed for vengeance, a cry that was heard by a dark God.
When Nightmare rescued them from the ruins of their world, when they left the shattered code behind, they never imagined they would gain so much. No longer are they just Cross and Chara. Now they are Cross-Elisha and Chara-Heshel. To the outside eye, Cross has two daemons, something that's never been seen before. But they know, they know Heshel isn’t Cross’.
TLTR: what if the norm was that most universes had daemons with only a select few not having them? What if Xtale was one of those few? What if Cross and Chara gained their daemons after leaving Xtale behind?

The two men before him exchanged knowing glances before looking back at him.
“Well, see, here’s the thing,” the tall, snarky blond said slowly. “My name is also Link. Captain Link Taylor of the Royal Hylian Army. And this-” He gestured at the fox daemon at his heels. “-is Ellanharai.”
“Link of Skyloft,” the shorter brunette said, placing a hand over his heart and inclining his head like a noble. Was… was that the Master Sword on his back?
“Ellanharai of Link,” the crane added, sweeping a wing out and also gracefully inclining her head.
“Well met,” they chorused in perfect harmony.
“…Oh, shit,” Link breathed, his sword arm dropping limply to his side as a headache bloomed behind his forehead. “I time traveled, didn’t I?”

Ed doesn’t remember the first form his daemon took, but he knows the first form he remembers it taking. He was a small child, no older than four, when he sat on the ground next to a mug of water he liked to play with, splashing it about, and the thing took on the form of an elongated creature with long, thin legs in the liquid, poking its head out over the rim with a curious glance.
It wasn’t Ed’s first word either, what he said there, but it’s the one he remembers most, more than any others:

A man and a ferret walk onto a space station.
See, the joke here is that the ferret is the only non-winged daemon up in space, and the joke of that is those winged creatures are the only ones who can actually get around in a zero-gravity environment, at least, with any sort of grace. Plus, bird and bat-daemons are creatures of the sky: who the hell sends a ferret to space, when you have raptors that long for the skies anyways? But that’s alright. Communications Officer Doug-Rae Eiffel has a lot more problems than being the only ferret in a team that needs flight: because with traitorous crewmates, captains returning from the dead, and aliens just existing apparently, being a ferret tends to fall to the backside. And like, at least they ARE a person. That’s more than can be said for the more technological-based members of the crew.
But that’s just what life is like, 7.9 light years from Earth. Welcome, to Wolf 359.
