On a superficial level, he knew his friends didn’t hate him. How could they? It was Lance they were talking about, he was basically unhateable. Even though he knew this like the back of his hand, he couldn’t help but feel like it was all a lie. A less-than-truth all for the sake of keeping him from breaking down. No one wants to deal with that situation, especially not Lance. It was so much easier to bottle it all up and pretend you never felt it in the first place.
Maybe if he pretended for long enough, he’d actually start feeling like everything was okay.

Karl begrudgingly accepted his best friend’s challenge simply to prove him wrong. He regretted it the second the words ‘I can totally do that, dude.’ came out of his mouth. The challenge itself was to choreograph and perform a Tik-Tok dance to I Wanna See Some Ass by a music artist that went by the stage name Sapnap. The catch was that the video had to go viral for him to win, otherwise it wouldn’t count and the bet was lost. What Karl didn’t know is he would get so much more than the temporary fame he expected from his 15 second video. So much more.
OR an au in which Karl is a mediocre Tik-Tokker and Sapnap is a music artist who wrote his most popular song, I Wanna See Some Ass. Chaos ensues.

His inadequacy pulled him down. He was drowning in it all.
