Stede’s expression softened. “It’s just- I wouldn’t have thought that was something you would have ever…” he pursed his lips together, trying to find the right words. “Considered?”
“Wasn’t sure if I even could, to be honest,” Ed was pushing forty, and this would have been a stretch even if he hadn’t lived so rough. He pressed a hand to his right hip, feeling the snarled raised skin. He supposed he really had missed the important bits.

Ed grumbled with frustration. He tried to make more space between Stede and himself on the sandy beach but stopped when his brace-less knee buckled. “Your crew comes to pick you up, you go back to your bloody ship, and I go back to mine.”

“You’re supposed to be dead,” Blackbeard muttered through grit teeth, eyes wide. His heart twinged with something that was either rage or relief.

Edward Teach was not expecting to see Stede Bonnet again, especially not after being plucked out of the sea and bleeding half to death. Ed isn't eager to accept his apology, but Stede is nothing if not persistent. -

“Christ, what on earth are you doing?” Stede exclaimed.
Ed was standing, with an expression that was half triumphant and half-insane, a handful of beard (now jagged and bare in patches) in one of his hands and a pair of scissors in the other.
“They’re looking for Blackbeard, aren’t they?” the scissors clipped off another handful of hair that soon met the pile forming on the floor.
Stede shook his head and gestured for the scissors “No, no, no. Let me show you how it’s done.”
