Shen Qingqiu manages to change his foretold fate by saving Liu Qingge in the Ling Xi caves. Unfortunately, the cultivation world is a lot less happy about this than Shen Qingqiu would have hoped.
This might have to do with the fact that the Liu Qingge who Shen Qingqiu saved is not quite human.

Summary
Banette is a pokemon that exists to give meaning to abandoned and discarded things. They evolve from their first form, the ghostly Shuppet, by possessing abandoned dolls. But when an ill-treated boy dies alone, a friendly Shuppet he named Diya takes it upon itself to give his life meaning. Diya possesses and revives his body, becoming a Banette, and sets out to make the boy's dream of becoming a pokemon trainer come true.
Along the way Diya makes friends, fights some pokemon, finds a deep and abiding love of scarves, blurs the line between living and dead, accidentally becomes a necromancer, and to everyone's surprise even finds the time to accomplish its original goal and catch a pokemon or three.

After the Christmas argument about Harry's Firebolt, Hermione decides that she's not putting up with the boys' sulking anymore, and she's going to do something about it. What happens next is a testament to the strong bonds forged through people actually talking to each other, the desperation involved in keeping your best friend alive and in one piece, and the desire to build a better, safer world for him to live in, no matter what the objections from the adults.
In other words, the risk in manipulating things to create child-soldiers is that they will decide that you, too, are also something to protect themselves against.
Revised, Edited, and Rewritten: After a lot of feedback about how the writing got better as this fic went on, I've been taking a break, not just to have the burn-out breakdown from IRL work, but also to rewrite some of the earlier chapters (mostly 1-5) hoping to improve on what was already there, and add things I wish I'd thought of the first time.

This. Is. A. MASTERPIECE!!! I cannot recommend this fic enough! This is honestly the most thought-out "What if the Trio communicated" fic that doesn't bash, doesn't make them OP, and keeps them connected to the rest of their year! That is revoluationary! I've never seen it before! No Evil Dumbledore Conspiracy, just the tiny and consistent (and more tragic, imo) failures of any Hogwarts adults to protect the children under their charge.
Wonderful integration of how Old Magics interact with the Wizarding world without making them Tragically Oppressed™ by the Big Evil Ministry™ - they're just really private and most people just think of them as unfashionable or weird. I also like the worldbuilding reason that magic that deals with souls only really works if it's by accident - trying to do it on purpose only ends horribly! Very fun, I don't see the whole "The most Powerful Magics are only accidental" very often.
Also: Sirius! I really enjoy what they've done with Sirius and Remus, even though it was kind of bittersweet. Remus definitely made his bed to lie in, and Sirius had to choose which of his chosen people he could save.
The rest of the series is pure gold, too! Forgotten characters (especially Hagrid and Trelawney, they're so well done in this!) get their chance to shine, lovely and interesting lore implications, and an in-depth look at perspectives that we don't often get to see. I constantly keep rereading the entire series (and diving into the comments, there's some gold down there)

Interesting fic with canon divergence! Don't think I've ever seen the "body in hell, soul elsewhere" loophole applied to the system's shenanigans, but I LOVE IT! Also, I see the "With this ring, I thee wed" reference! 10/10 suffering for Meng Mo!

So, it didn’t start out like this.
Alfred would scoff at the statement, about how Bruce was trying to justify the whole situation to himself. It had started out as a simple design, black everything with black outlines and black hood. It got a little more intense as the world went on, got wind of his ghost on the streets, and became scared of The Bat . So Bruce got a little more creative with it, Alfred and him had a good laugh over the name, the scare, and Alfred had a vicious streak of humor that he had passed onto his ward-
So now the suit had a visible bat-theme, an insignia to drape in the shadows and to paint across the streets of Gotham.
It only took a year into the whole charade of heroism for Bruce to overhear a conversation between some goons- some low level thug hired by the Riddler this week- about nothing at all pertaining to what the hell the Riddler was doing in the sewers but instead:
“ The Batman can fly, you know, I’ve seen his wings.”
