    Izzy had only wanted to know what all the excitement was about, truthfully, why Ed and Stede made such big deals out of wearing their banyans when even separate nightshirts were wholly unnecessary. They were pirates, dammit; comfort was for other people.

    But he saw the dressing gown in a shop window at their last port, silken and ivory with an embellishment of lace, the exact kind of thing that life on a ship would ruin. Izzy was scarcely aware of handing over the coin for it until the shopkeeper was wrapping it up for him, paper as thin and fragile as the garment itself.
