It was a well-known fact that Jonathan wasn’t the biggest fan of Steve Harrington, but it irked Jonathan just how liked the guy was. Everyone either liked him or tolerated him, and Jonathan was the only person who actively tried to stay away from him—with the exception of Mike, who still rolled his eyes whenever his sister’s ex-boyfriend was involved.
Speaking of Nancy, she isn’t the reason that Jonathan doesn’t like Steve. Jonathan would be blind if he couldn’t see the tension between the two, it’s been an ongoing thing ever since Jonathan came back from California. He bites his tongue every time he overhears Robin and Dustin tease Steve about his all-too-obvious crush on Nancy, and egg him on to win her over. He notices Nancy’s subtle defenses of Steve—he’d be stupid not to.
But Jonathan trusts Nancy. It’s as simple as that. They had recently overcome the tense barrier in their relationship that had built because of distance, and Jonathan realized just how much faith he just has in Nancy.
