    Shane should be here right now, should be in Ilya’s house. Ilya should be teasing him about being picky while going through delivery options for food on his phone. Shane should be discovering that Ilya has ginger ale in the fridge and the protein bars Shane mentioned liking in an interview in his pantry. He should be making out with Shane on the couch, sneaking a hand into his pants, teasing him about whether they can beat the deliveryman and arrive before he does. Shane was supposed to spend the night tonight, the Montreal team not set to leave until tomorrow afternoon because of potential bad weather in the morning. Shane should be fed and showered and ready to curl up in bed with Ilya tonight.
    But Shane is in a hospital.

    And Ilya is here.

    He pulls up Jane in his phone again. He presses call.

    “Hey, you’ve reached Shane Hollander-”

    Ilya closes his eyes and lets Shane’s voice roll over him.

    (canon divergence in which shane getting injured happens during a game in boston) (...which means shane then gets to go home with ilya to recover)

    Pyeongchang 2018 Olympics games are about to start and for the captain of the Russian hockey team, the pressure has never been higher. But the pressure from fans, still bitter over the debacle in 2014, can barely compare to that what Ilya feels inside, knowing this might be the last time he dons the white-blue-red jersey for the event, while his feeling towards his home country are more complicated than ever.
    The last thing he has the time for is his best friend and for the next two weeks, competitor, Cliff Marleau, wanting to know everything about Ilya's and Shane's relationship.

    Except Shane accidentally, drunkenly, outs himself to the Montreal Metros at the end of the season. Who are not as okay with it as Shane would have hoped.

    AKA the most eventful Canada Day that the MLH has ever seen.

    “Awe, so sweet to me, worrying. But no, I am in Moscow. I have no good cars here, only shitty Marussia B2. Stupid purchase. You know, the B2 is just B1 but with fancier clothes? Look better than B1, though. B1 look like low-money 80’s future movie.” He makes an annoyed sound. “No. I do not have word. научная фантастика. What is movie type that has flying cars?”

    “Jesus,” Shane says, running a hand through his hair. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you talk so much.”

    “You like my voice, da? So is no problem, for you.”

    “Fuck you. Do you mean sci-fi?”

    Rozanov makes a triumphant sound. “Yes, that! Sci-fi. B1 look like that meme of a cat’s face covered in cream. Ugly car. So, at least I have better choice. I can look at it and not wish to drive it off cliff and into garbage land.”

    “...You’re thinking of a landfill.”

    Or, Ilya keeps calling Shane at odd hours to talk about nothing and everything. Shane, for some reason he can’t quite rationalize, keeps answering. And texting. And then things get a bit out of hand.
