Something happened to Felix and Han. They were their usual happy selves, until they weren't. Chan can tell something isn't right, and when Felix mentions the two of them may be in danger but literally can't talk about it, he knows there's nothing he wouldn't do to keep the people he loves safe. So until they're able to tell him what happened, he'll be their rock, they're protector, and he'll be damned if either of them suffers more than they obviously have.

Chan nods. “Channie’s here, baby.”
“C-Can I come over there?”
“Of course,” Chan says softly.
“And y-you won’t hurt me?”
Chan doesn't let his tears fall. “No, baby, I won’t hurt you. Never.”
“Do you promise?”
“I promise, Lix. I swear on my life.”
He watches Felix swallow. “O-Okay,” he says quietly.
When Chan first met Felix, he was quiet, bruised, and flinching at everything around him. Time softened fear into trust, and trust into an easy, sweet friendship – one where everyone knew Felix was Chan’s favorite, and Chan was Felix’s safe space. But when feelings change into something new and a different kind of love starts to unfurl, Felix’s old fears resurface. Muscle memory developed through trauma and pain fights against the gentleness he knows he can trust.
For Chan, loving Felix is so, so easy. It’s full of soft words, a steady presence, gentle care, unwavering kindness, and letting him move at his own pace until he can truly believe that this love is different, that he is safe, and that he will never be hurt again.
