Matthew is a quiet guy who became a biologist against his parents’ wishes. He always loved animals and it was his dream to protect even the most unlovable of them. (Though he thinks all of them deserve love)
He’s doing his normal job and realizes something’s off in the forest.
That’s also when he meets Gilbert and his peaceful life suddenly is filled with noise and color. He doesn’t hate it. Quite the opposite actually.

What am I doing?
He isn’t quite sure, not yet, but he knows that the Panzer fell into the middle of the aqueduct, and that water at temperatures below freezing can induce shock within twenty seconds or less, and if he is too late...

When a young Gilbert Beilschmidt starts to question if his dream is worth all the pain that comes with it, a young, timid Matthew Jones-Williams bursts his way into his life. Together, maybe, just maybe they'd be able to find success and sustainability in their love for the ice.

When he had been younger, back before Bismarck had officially united Germany, he had often sneaked out of meetings, leaving Prussia to handle all the political stuff. He longed to get back to those simpler times, when he had not been the one responsible to keep the peace, instead being able of trusting his brother to keep him safe, as it was the Prussian king who was the German Kaiser and it had been Prussia who led the Germans to unity.
