    “Why such a long face, Perseus?” The voice was vaguely accented, it sounded British but the cadence was much more casual than Alfred’s voice.

    Percy immediately stood up, pulling out Riptide, stepping into a fighting stance, and pointing it at the new figure. He was mostly unfamiliar, though Percy could sense the divinity rolling off the creature, who looked surprisingly human—at least in his clothes.

    Everything about the figure was eccentric—the big fur coat, the large sunglasses even though it was still dark, the funky print on the shirt. Honestly, he looked like he was a few minutes away from becoming the newest Gotham villain.

    “Ooh, sharp sword there,” he poked it with his finger. “You won’t be needing that with me, darling.” He flashed a smile, his teeth so white they were nearly blinding.

    Summary

    Vigilante justice was fun, most of the time, Percy had decided. He liked helping people and it gave him a purpose and a place to channel all of his anger at the world. Even better, he knew his mom would be proud of him, probably worried and praying to the goddess of justice, but still glad he was saving lives.

    [Percy definitely didn’t feel any type of way about his mom’s untimely demise, not at all. He was dealing with it accordingly by beating up the scum of Gotham’s underbelly—and by scum he definitely meant abusers not the poor people living in Crime Alley.]

    The Bat claimed he wasn’t keen on letting teenagers run across rooftops in brightly colored spandex (Percy gestured over to Jason across the cave, still sat in his ridiculous boots and black mask, who was grinning and waving) but Percy was bored as Hades surely was during summer, sitting in cave every night. He was an ADHD riddled teen demigod who definitely wanted to flip over roofs and stop crime.

    Too quickly was there a gloved hand around the string of his backpack, Batman tumbling into the harbor with him. Percy went to breathe, but immediately started coughing, the pollution of the waters weakening him as quickly as it strengthened him.

    The vigilante hauled Percy out of the water, watching as the demigod fell flat on his back, breathing heavily. Batman was scowling down at him, water dripping from his cowl, his frown more pronounced than it was before Percy’s stunt. “Are you finished yet?”

    “Well that was just embarrassing,” Percy muttered, reluctantly pushing himself to his knees. “Go on a week-long quest and win in a duel against my crazy cousin only to be immediately defeated by Batman.”

    Living in Gotham wasn’t nice. It wasn’t fun. But Percy was alive, even though now he only had ten dollars to his name after spending some money on a box of plastic water bottles so he didn’t have to resort to drinking harbour water.

    Little by little, Percy began to get his bearings and become familiar with the city.

    Then the vigilante guy in the bat costume and his neon sidekick broke into the warehouse Percy was staying in.

    Nine-year-old Percy Jackson runs away to avoid being killed by monsters like Sally and Gabe, accidentally winding up in Gotham. Bruce's "child with a traumatic backstory" senses activate and Percy gets adopted. It's a nonlinear story, with half of each chapter taking place before the Second Gigantomachy, and half of them taking place after, when Percy returns to Gotham.
