Summary
"Am I bad company?" Carol's words are slurred, and she can hear the insecurity leaking into her tone. She's drunk. Carol knows she shouldn't be, but she couldn't stop thinking about- everything. After Zosia bombarded her with questions about her books, her conversation with Helen in the bar began to loop in her mind.
"Of course not, Carol." Zosia frowns, scolding her, as if the implication itself was an insult. "We enjoy your company."
"I'm not a monster." Carol insists to no one. "I'm the only one who had a normal fucking reaction."
She doesn't hear Zosia's reply because she chooses that exact moment to attempt standing. Her legs buckle immediately. She feels Zosia catch her from under her arms, and Carol lets herself go limp like a cat, trying to refuse the touch without words. She won't tell Zosia to let go, of course, because then the woman actually would.

Summary
Breakup sex had never really been Carol’s style. She liked a clean cut, a scalpel’s edge, mostly because she was the one doing the breaking and her exes had never been that interested in trying to fight for her. So maybe her lack of experience in that arena was why she found herself intertwined with Zosia not even an hour after the illusion had been shattered.
Carol is bad at breakups. Time to save the (girl) world about it.

Carol feels the confusion slip onto her face. Nervousness creeps up her spine again. “Me?”
“I know everything that anybody has ever thought about you, Carol. Every memory. Every feeling. Helen. Your ex-girlfriends. Your dentist. It’s like I have a Carol encyclopedia in my head.”
Carol had thought that she was done experiencing fresh horrors. What a nightmare it is to realize that she is not. “Oh, god.” She says.
“Oh, god,” Zosia agrees.
After they manage to break Zosia free of the hive, Zosia and Carol try to navigate the field of landmines that is their relationship.

Summary
Elphaba Thropp, was gone- dead. She was no longer.
Glinda never did heed her warnings, for wishing only does wound the heart. This ache of reality carved its path into her, pulling and prying at her softest parts, that soft underbelly of love that she couldn’t put out. Torn apart by grief, mutilated by self hatred and isolation.
Or
Glinda upland had lived months in the aftermath of Elphabas death. No longer can she take it. So she does the only thing she can think to do, join her in death.

It keeps her up at night, wondering whether Elphie felt the same— like something else, after university, after all of the hurt she’d endured, could exist, and if she picked Fiyero to have that with, and not Glinda. It keeps her up at night because she misses him too, how he held her; it was nice to be held. She misses everything, and she knows she can never get any of it back. Everybody who knew her, really knew her, is gone.
Or so she thought.

She lets her doubts slip away, for there is nothing else that Glinda could do in this moment but respond in kind, “I love you too.”
The moment the words leave her lips, Elphie smiles at her one more time. Glinda can see her bottom lip is trembling and her hands are shaking where they hold the edge of the door. But she does not waver as she closes the door of the closet with Glinda inside. The wooden surface inches from her face feels like a mockery.

This can’t be happening, Elphaba thinks, as she hears the gun discharge, the sharp crack cutting through the air like a knife. It’s a beautiful day, an unfairly beautiful day for violence. It's already been a terrible day too, and she never thought it could any worse. But Elphaba knows, deep in her heart, what is going to happen. There's no time to prevent it, even if her mind was thinking fast enough. Fiyero is too close. His aim is steady. His time in the Gale Force has taught him to be a weapon against the Wizard’s enemies. But he has never been a killer. Not until today, when he’s stressed from trying to figure out how to keep them all safe and his palms are sweaty and his finger slips.
The bullet launches itself from the barrel of his gun, embedding itself in Glinda's chest.
Or: while trying to protect Elphaba, Fiyero accidentally pulls the trigger. As they flee to Kiamo Ko with an injured Glinda in tow, Elphaba and Fiyero have to find a way to heal her and protect her from her enemies. And in the process, they need to set the record straight on a few things.

“I’m fine. Things are going well. I…” Glinda hesitated. She tried not to ever say anything too sappy to Elphaba, who never knew how to accept such things gracefully, but she couldn’t help it. “I miss you,” Glinda admitted softly. Again, the line went silent for a beat too long. Glinda opened her mouth to soften the admission, but before she could, Elphaba’s quiet voice filled her ear.
“I miss you, too.”
After graduation, Elphaba and Glinda find themselves in separate cities and therefore apart for the first time in years. They keep in contact through letters, phone calls, and occasional visits. When Elphaba won’t stop being elusive about how she’s faring after being cut off financially, Glinda worries a completely appropriate amount. (She tries to offer a completely appropriate amount of help, too.)
