“Are you trying to get killed, Potter?” Malfoy drawls, stalking forward. Quick as a serpent himself, he reaches out and grabs the snake just below the head. It thrashes in his grip, but is no longer able to bite anyone. “This is a poisonous snake, and I doubt anyone brought a bezoar with them.”
Harry glares. He opens his mouth, and feels the beginning the snake’s language pass his lips, and this isn’t what he wants, what’s the point of insulting Malfoy if he can’t understand him –
Malfoy’s eyes widen. He slaps his hand over Harry’s mouth, “Potter, what the hell–”

Summary
For a moment, Garak’s heart leapt. He imagined a tall, thin figure emerging, perhaps dressed in Starfleet Medical gray and blue, or perhaps wearing civilian clothing. He imagined him saying, I got your letter, and I couldn’t stay away any longer. Did you mean what you said?
The door opened. The figure that emerged was short and clad in the red of the Bajoran militia, with a bag slung across her shoulder.
“Colonel Kira,” Garak said. “This is an unexpected surprise. To what do I owe the pleasure?”
Kira didn’t return his smile. “We need to talk, Garak. It’s about Julian.”
***
After the war, Section 31 comes after Julian. Someone really should have alerted Garak sooner, but now that he knows, he's not letting him go without a fight. Neither is Miles, Kira, or Jake, for that matter.

Summary
Neither Julian or Garak had ever read this book before but they decide to try it after Julian was recommended it by Data. After what seemed to be an endless debate they decide to run a program of the story in a holosuite. Of course, the only program they can get is based on the film adaptation, but they're quite sure it won't be that different. They don't realize that while the protagonists in the book are rivals, they become lovers in the film.
--
You do not have to have read or seen the movie of The Assassination Bureau Ltd. to enjoy this fic, I made sure of it. That being said, the movie is an absolute treat and the book is a beautiful absurdist work so I highly recommend them both. Ultimately I just really wanted to see how Julian and Garak would respond to one of my favorite Jack London works and the very different film adaptation.Bookmarked by birdsofmorrigan
