Colin was pacing the front hall. He had never been so jittery in his life. All his anxiety, anticipation, and excitement compelled his feet back and forth across the hall.
Ever since Mama had told him that Penelope would be joining them for the holiday via the girls’ carriage, he had been even more fidgety than usual. He had not been able to be normal around her since he had been home from Eton, and that was six months ago. When Eloise had called after her in the park and she had turned, her hair swirling around her, her face pink and her mouth laughing, a feeling Colin could only describe as blazing hot calm had washed over him. She was so perfectly beautiful, so perfectly kind and charming, so perfectly clever and sparkling.

He mumbled something she could not quite hear, shedding his outer layers of clothes as he closed the door behind him. She was enjoying watching him, sitting up straighter on the settee so she could see him better, when he strode across the room toward her, intentional and calculated.
He stopped right in front of her, his hips at her eye level, cupping her chin in his big, warm hand. She looked up at him and his eyes were dark, hungry. He was looking at her mouth.
