The whispering wind caresses his cheek. Jinu feels a brand akin to fire, tracing over the tear track. Erasing it.
“I wanted you to.”
Oh, Jinu. My Jinu. Did you really think I could ever let you go?

“I’m taking photos," is what the pesky nuisance says. "This is the prime spot, I’m sure they’ll be black woodpeckers here. Did you know they’re the largest species of woodpecker-”
“-In Japan, yeah,” Katsuki snaps, tetchy. “Tell me something I don’t know.”
Unfortunately, the man seems immune to sarcasm. He stops unpacking his flashy gear- Katsuki spies a Hasselblad X2D, which is kind of obscene when set against his scuffed up Nikon D7000- to tap his chin thoughtfully.
“Nuthatches have the unusual ability to walk headfirst down trees.”
“You’re a nuthatch,” Katsuki snarks back. Sure, it’s immature. But he’s growing more irritated by the minute about this whole ordeal.
“No, I’m not.”
For just a moment, it propels him a little further off the ground. Into flight.

Summary
“How is it?” Shouto asks tentatively.
“Alright,” is the rather disappointing response. “I’ve cooked better at home.”
“I see.”
With a huff, Shouto stabs at his own milder curry. The Plan can’t be haphazard like this or rely on mere technicalities. Once again, he is unsuccessful.
“Not worth queue-jumping either, you public menace.”
Wonderful. So Katsuki had seen that too.
“In my defence-”
Katsuki prods the chopsticks in Shouto’s direction.
“Don’t. There’s no defence for that,” he says, like describing a truly heinous act.
“Spoken like a model citizen."
Consideration seeps into all Katsuki does. Shouto thinks, then, that he'd like to do something out of consideration too.

“I think I’ve decided on my final resolution for the year,” Shouto parts with the words far too casually.
Suspicions raised, Katsuki narrows his eyes. “That so.”
“Yes.” Shouto nods. “But I’m not telling you because you don’t support my future aspirations.”
What the fuck. Katsuki chokes on a noise he refuses to make. He can’t cave now, no way.
“Fine. Guess I won’t tell you mine then either.”
Eyes blown wide, Shouto slides forwards in rapt attention. “You have one?”
New Year's resolutions are pointless. Call him a killjoy, call him whatever. Katsuki knows he’s right because he continues to thrive and excel through his own damn merit without them.

What he’s hearing feels absurd in every conceivable way. Nobody is going to believe this.

“And chivalrous—"
“I bet he beats his servants,” Arthur insisted, with no proof or reason. “And his dogs.”
“And handsome—”
“Handsome?!” Arthur shouted, so loud that it boomed in Merlin’s ears. He jerked his head up in surprise. Dark spots of red had bloomed across Arthur’s cheeks, flush and furious. “He is not! He’s—shut up, Merlin!”
