Mermaids and humans are meant to be separate. One is the apex predator of the sea, while the other is the apex predator of the land… but in this realm of advancing technology, the two species are intermingling more and more.

Things to be noted (aka world-building! yay!!):
- There are different mermaid lifestyles, just as there are different human lifestyles. There are only three said lifestyles mentioned in the series; nomadic, colonies and solitary.
- The majority of the mermaid characters (Saki, Shiho, Kohane, Shizuku, Tsukasa, Airi, Emu and An) live in a colony; Kanade lives in solitude, while Haruka is kept in captivity.
- All the human characters live in the same general vicinity (the same town), but Ichika, Nene, Rui, Mizuki, Mafuyu and Honami attend the same university.
- Minori is taking a gap year, so she lives at home, but works at the same aquarium Haruka is being kept in.
- Akito and Ena live in a lower-class neighborhood by the docks, where Akito works.

Summary

MY SHAYLAS!!!! back when this fic came out i can guarantee that i had like zero idea of how much these two would come to mean to me..... all i knew is i got the white hair lady with an absolutely gorgeous story and the beautiful opera singer along with her in a fateful ten-pull. i had no idea that shenhe followed the character archetype i would come to adore, nor that yun jin was practically a 1:1 ratio of how i think, how i act, or what motivates me in this world...... they're making me cry..... ty for writing this masterpiece.
the red string soulmate trope is genuinely perfect for this pairing with shenhe's whole red rope thing going on. i'll never ever forget this fic, even when i wasn't as ridiculously attached to these two i remember it left a lasting impression on me. ty for indirectly blessing me with a shenjin fic in the big 2025!!!!
