Laena crossed the room and joined him at the window, her hand gently brushing against his. He looked down at her with a mixture of affection and concern. "About what?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
Daemon hesitated, his gaze flickering briefly to her belly. "The future. Ours. The child."
Laena’s heart fluttered at the mention of their child. It had been a difficult decision to come to Pentos—after everything they had lost, everything they had fought for—but there was something in her that longed for peace. A fresh start. She hadn’t been sure what to expect from the pregnancy, the idea of carrying their child after so many years of uncertainty. The thought of it both terrified and thrilled her.
"I’m scared," she confessed quietly, her hand resting on her abdomen, where the life inside her stirred. "Scared of what this means. Scared for our child."
Daemon’s eyes softened, and he stepped closer, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. "We’ve faced worse. This is nothing compared to what we’ve already endured. Whatever comes, we’ll face it together."
