"How did you start riding?” Mira asked, moving her hand from handlebar to hip as she cruised next to Rumi.
“I didn’t have a car, couldn’t afford one. I had been interested in motorcycles for a while, and a friend tipped me off to a guy selling this bike for cheap. I scraped together some savings and here I am.” Rumi swayed her bike back and forth in her lane.
“I see. How long have you been riding?” Mira pressed out of curiosity.
“About four years now. I’ve taken care of it the best I could, done my oil changes, brakes, fluid and everything, but I think I might need a new clutch soon. No idea how to do that, and I don’t have the money for a shop right now.”
Mira nodded, mildly impressed.
“If you want, I can help you put in a new clutch. It’s not too hard, and I have the tools for it.”
The words left Mira’s mouth before she even realized what she was saying. She hadn’t helped anyone work on their bike in a long time. Not since— her.
“Miraaa, I couldn’t ask you to do that,” Rumi squeaked. “It’s okay, I can just take it to the shop—”
“Nope. I’m helping you do it. It’ll be fun, promise.”

Rumi shook her head, pressing her lips tightly together. "I just… don't understand. Every time I have had these dreams, it ends the same. But something was different this time. It was quiet, peaceful. There was only this low hum. It was like something, someone, was speaking to me, wanting me to go somewhere." She threw her head in her hands, fingers grasping at the soft little hairs that tickled her hairline. "I am not sure if I should follow it."
Mira rested a hand gently on her shoulder. "You don't need to have all the answers. If you wish to go, I will follow."
Rumi lifted her head, turning towards her. She met the steady gaze of her lover beside her.
"No matter where you go in this world, Rumi, I will always follow. That is my promise to you."
