    When the call arrived, Jeff just couldn’t believe it, he refused to. They informed him that melted pieces of a crashed airplane were found in the war zone in Bereznik, and it was confirmed to have been Scott’s designated aircraft. No body remains were found; the plane was in such devastating conditions that the military declared his son to have been carbonized on the spot. Jeff refused to listen, he refused to give in, yet the Air Forces declared his son dead, and they invited the family to request a military funeral.

    [Scott is PRESUMED dead. Unaware of the fact that their beloved big brother is still alive, forgotten in enemy territory in Bereznik, his family mourns him at his funeral.]

    TAGGED MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH JUST TO BE SURE! Scott isn't actually dead, but the characters fully believe he is, and I'm exploring their desperate sense of grief and loss.
