J had explained it to her, once. “Love the job, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
“Which actually means,” Uzi had replied, “we’re supposed to do the company’s bidding and they don’t even pay us?”
“No, the job is its own compensation.” J’s claws were still wet and glimmering at her hips. She smirked. “It’s a dying wage.”
Uzi groaned, but she’d already been subcontracted—too late for second thoughts when her hands were just as black with oil. She licked her fingers, fighting a smile.
Things were working out with J—doing the bad guys’ bidding wasn’t so bad, really. Especially when, unlike the ‘good guys’, they gave it this kind of passion. J and Uzi had that much in common, at least.
Shame that passion is just an excuse for corporations to use you up. Enough unpaid overtime—they both needed a break.

Uzi’s been living with J’s team for a while now. They’ve settled into a comfortable routine. A very comfortable routine — she hopes no one’s noticed the bite marks. She’d kill J for that, but it’s not like that worked out last time.
Worth it, though, to cement their mutually beneficial partnership. Even if it meant acting as a glorified oilcan whenever J got hungry. Uzi isn’t sure what’s the worse embarrassment . That she kind of likes it, or that J really likes it.
...No, the worst embarrassment is that they’ve been doing this long enough that J wants to spice things up.

Tonight, she needs to repair her railgun. Maybe tweak a few things while she’s at it. And sure, she’s staying up a little late to do it. (Don’t tell J.)
The railgun’s what kept her alive, after all. She needs to hone it to perfection — what else did she have?

Summary
Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who critique capital end up reinforcing it instead.
J is a ruthless killer determined to lead the most effective disassembly team Copper-9's ever seen. Uzi is a inventive rebel with a master plan to win respect and answers. By nature, by mission, by attitude, the two are destined enemies. Each stands as a challenge to everything the other is—and if they share one thing, both attack a challenge head on.
Yet that doesn't exhaust the parallels. They share the loneliness of standing as the only ones who dare to try in a world going through the motions. They share that purpose-rending wound, one who once cherished them now torn away, and dimly comprehend why, if they can even remember the loss. They share a fiercely defensive shame that makes snarling out insults with arrayed claws more comfortable, more fulfilling, than any lame as hell liability recognizable as romance.
If you ask J, keeping this toaster around a little longer helps the bottom line. If you ask Uzi, that arrogant murderess is not calling the shots and nothing about her menace flusters her, shut up.

Jasper will do anything to be Malachite again; against her wishes, she fell in love with Lapis when they were fused. Now, she hates herself and how weak she feels without Malachite, and begs Lapis to fuse with her. Surprisingly enough, Lapis agrees; under the guise of 'learning to trust' Jasper again, she's able to take back her prisoner and get away with her abuse without anyone knowing.
The Crystal Gems think Lapis is helping her. What they don't know is every second the two are left alone, Lapis takes her anger out on her former fusion partner. And Jasper can't reach out to anybody; Lapis is all she has, and she hopes if she keeps doing whatever Lapis wants, she'll fuse with her again.
But the longer she lets it go on, the worst Lapis starts getting...This is a dark take on a Jasper redemption, back if Lapis agreed to become Malachite on the ship under the condition she first trusts Jasper again
