Summary
He watches Mike turn to smile at El as Lucas digs Skittles and Kit Kats out of the vending machine, and he wants to bang his head against a wall. Dramatic, maybe, but he thinks he’s earned the right to be just a little dramatic. If nothing else, it would get Mike’s attention.
Will closes his eyes, free hand running through his hair. When he opens them again, Mike is standing in the middle of the room with his arms full of candy, looking nervously between Will and El, who’s moved to sit three seats down with her nose in a magazine.
He’s going to go to El. He’s going to go sit with her and try to patch things up because their relationship is...on the rocks or whatever and El is the only thing he cares about anyway, so -
“Hey,” Mike says.
Will blinks up at him, grip on the armrest automatically loosening (but only just). Mike gives him this timid sort of half-smile that Will doesn’t return. “Hi.”
Stranger Things 3 missing scene fic in which Mike actually apologizes for his and Will's fight in episode 3.

Summary
Mike breathes out sharply, sinking to his knees in front of Will without conscious thought. Every bone in his body is turning to jelly, because Will is here, but he's also- not. His form is made up of the same dusty gold that fills the air around him, flaking off him and dancing around. Mike wants to reach out and catch the light in his palm. Will looks not entirely solid, like this is some poor imitation of him rendered in light particles, like his physical form is somewhere else, and for a horrible moment Mike thinks that Will is a ghost after all. That this is an illusion, brought about by Mike's hopeless yearning. If it weren't for the pebbles digging sharply into his legs as he knees on the ground and the crisp chill of the spring air on his face, Mike would be sure he was dreaming, but he doesn't think he could dream up something so simultaneously as magical and horrifying as the specter of his maybe-dead friend hovering before him.
"Will," he whispers, reaching out until his fingers are centimeters from Will's arm, and Will's eyes fly open.
on march 29th, 1986, will byers vanishes for a second time. 366 days later, he reappears.

“Wait,” Will said in a harsh, croaky voice. He felt like his brain was dribbling out of his ears and he fell onto the couch with a small poof of air as he stared at Mike in such a hard daze that it was a wonder he didn’t pass out again. “I - what do you - “
They stared at each other.
The air was thick and suddenly it was like Will could taste ozone at the back of his tongue, like electricity was coating his mouth and didn’t leave any room to breathe, to think, and his voice was wobbly, uncertain, as he said, “what do you mean… other boys?”
