“Slow down baby. Listen to my voice, alright?” Natasha was drenched in guilt but she tried not to let her own worry seep in. She had no other choice than to go on this mission. She was on her way home, in the quinjet to be exact, yet she was still too damn far away.

When it feeds off of your tears and grows so large it starts to turn from a hole and into an imploding star. Swallowing every happy moment you’ve ever experienced, chewing it up, and spitting it out covered in insecurity-flavored saliva.

A literal, gaping, bloody hole. The kind that comes served with a side of agony so blinding you heave, turning on your side and spitting up every drop of booze you drank hours prior. Maybe days. Only you can’t, because there’s a hole in your chest.

The lights are just low enough to keep the mood tensely casual, but bright enough they make Nat's head ache in comparison to the gentle moonlight outside. She slinks into a free space on the couch next to Steve, giving a slightly awkward smile and nod.
"Hey," He sets his beer on the glass coffee table. "What's up?"
"Not much," Nat shrugs. "You?"
"Same," Steve lifts his bottle again and takes a swig. "Not too much going on around here."
"Yeah," Nat looks around. Her vision's a little fuzzy. Her blood pressure's probably low too. "So...are we just sitting around with..." She gestures to some sport she can't identify up on the high-definition flat screen. "...the game playing?"
"Pretty much," Bruce confirms.

"Something's wrong, isn't it?" It's barely a question, more of a confirmation.
"I..." She can't make her lips twist into the shapes to form words.
"Where are you? I'm on my way," There's the sound of a door opening and keys jangling. "This doesn't feel right," Yeah, it's all wrong. Everything is so bad.
"I'm..."
"Nat, I'm sorry, I don't know how to GPS your phone or whatever, just tell me where you are, please," A car door clicks open and then slams shut again. "You're not okay," Definitely a statement this time.
"I'm not," Damn it, why'd she say that.
"I'm coming," His engine rattles and growls as it starts. "Message me your location, okay?"
"Mhm," Nat can't stand to hear his voice a second longer, so she hangs up. She opens up Google Maps and screenshots the address of the club she's behind, thanking all heaven and earth that it's still open from when she walked here earlier.
