When Kaveh looks into the mirror, the person who stares back at him is someone he does not recognise. He raises his hand to touch his hair with trembling fingers and the stranger in the mirror does the same, but it feels like staring into a black hole, like leaning over water and seeing a distorted face peering back. And well, maybe Kaveh just isn’t real at all–maybe he’s just a shell, with dead eyes and gray skin and limp hair like a toy with all its stuffing pulled out. Maybe he has no body at all and his consciousness is bereft of reality, or maybe all of this is fake and nothing is real and the world doesn’t even exist.

Taehyung is on fire. His skin is ablaze where Jimin’s hands settle on his waist and hips, fingertips tracing idle patterns against his skin under the hem of his silk shirt. When he closes his eyes, he imagines that Jimin is tracing his name there, leaving his mark, a reminder that they belong to each other. He tilts his head back and he knows that Jimin’s gaze is drawn to the long line of his throat, can imagine the intensity of his gaze, but he keeps his eyes shuttered so he can revel in the flashing of the lights behind his eyelids, in the weightlessness of being held close to someone else while the music rises to a crescendo and time is suspended.

When Jimin opens his eyes, the sun is already up and light is spilling through the gap between his curtains and illuminating a streak of floor. The blankets are pooled around his waist like he’d been restless in the night, twisted up in knots on his side of the bed. For a few moments, he stays perfectly still and wills all his muscles and limbs to be motionless while he takes a deep breath and resigns himself to the thought of hobbling through another day. The moment he twitches, muscles tightening and grinding even as he works to move his fingers and then his arms, the beginning of pain is already settling at the base of his skull. He grits his teeth against it and stretches out his arm onto the other side of the bed, fingers reaching across the mattress and sliding over the pillow beside his own.

When he gets back, Kaveh’s pacing in the living room, worrying his lip, and whips his head up to stare at Alhaitham just as he walks through the doorway, and damn near vaults up over the couch to get to him.
“You!” Kaveh yells, pointing a finger in his face, not even letting Alhaitham shut the door, “Do you know how worried I was? When we just started hearing voices and then you just suddenly rush off like that?! Archons, at least give me an explanation before you leave like that, what were you thinking? You’re lucky I guessed you were probably going to Cyno’s to talk to Tighnari or else I would’ve hunted you down—”
Archons, I love him.
This thought stops Kaveh in his tracks.
