Summary
Warcross is the most popular video game in the world. Everyone has NeuroLink glasses or contacts to connect to the virtual world and enhance their everyday life, including Will Byers, who loves to play Warcross more than anything else.
The virtual reality game offers a fun escape that he’s enjoyed his whole life. Enter a unique map, collect power-ups, twist the game to your favor, and steal the opposing team’s artifact. It’s as easy as that.
He’s played for years, and his high rank shows his obvious skill, even though he’s nowhere near the levels of professional Warcross players, who both stream and record content for viewers online and also compete in the annual in-person Warcross tournament hosted by the owner company: Brenner Games. The whole world tunes in to watch how the teams conquer the digitized maps and obstacles as they fight for fame and fortune.
During Will’s summer break, the about-to-be-senior in high school’s life is changed with one single match, and suddenly he’s thrown under the spotlight as an emerging Wildcard –a new up-and-coming player added to a professional team– and competing alongside famous players such as Max Mayfield, Dustin Henderson, and Mike Wheeler.

“Idiot” Nancy mumbles as she brings her hands up to caress Robin's face gently with her thumbs, tears that had been brimming in her eyes falling loose, “I can’t, I already lost a friend, I can’t lose you too, please Robin don’t leave me, please don’t leave me, I don’t- I can’t, I-I don’t want you to go” Nancy pulls her closer, so close she’s afraid she might break her. “this can’t be happening, Robin I-’’ a sob escapes her, whispering so low only Robin could hear, “I need you” she cradles Robin’s head with one hand as she hides her face in the crook of Robin’s neck breathing her in like she won’t be able to ever again. “Please.”
When Robin gets vecna'd something inside Nancy breaks. The two become close due to Nancy's need to keep an eye on Robin, when she vows the upside down won't take another friend from her. Robin is confused and flustered at Nancys new attitude and clinginess.

This is an Argyle-centric fic, set in Hawkins post-rift.
This is a tale of survival.
The army quarantines the town, but of course they've got to stay, got to try and save the world.
Argyle is there for most of it, helps where he can, mostly by providing comfort (food) and relief (Purple Palm Tree Delight) to the good people of Hawkins, army included.
Jonathan's there too, of course, and it takes them a while, but they get there. -

It started with Jennifer Hayes.
Mike watched her die; one moment, she's looking at Will and the next she's limp on the dirty tile floor of the Hawkins Middle cafeteria, without a pulse before the nearest doctor could even check it. Before he knew it, half of Hawkins' kids had dropped dead in one week, and it wasn't going to slow down anytime soon.
Mike didn't lose Will Byers to a quick and painless death. No, he lost him when Will rolled a seven and rode off on his bike into the darkness of the ill-lit streets. He lost him when Joyce sent him to North Dakota without a word. He lost him when Mike boarded the school bus one ordinary Friday yet ended up at a "rehabilitation camp" in Montana, forced to work until he couldn't feel his limbs.
But with a swift and surprising escape from Golden Valley five years later, Mike still has a chance to find Will. And he'll do whatever it takes to get his best friend back-- even if it means burning the world around them to ashes.
