Day Seven [June 26th]: Alternate Universe, "So... What Are We?"
Luis works as a bartender in a bar, Leon is a regular customer who doesn't really let anyone get close to him and only found his way into the café by chance the first time. One evening, after a few days of awkward conversations, Luis asks him while they are sharing an empty whisky bottle on a rooftop at sunrise: ‘Tell me... what are we actually, eh?’
But that's hardly the end of the story. There are nights when the past feels closer than the air you breathe.

The bathroom looked a lot different now than it had when he had moved in, but the most glaring difference was the uptick in quality of his soaps. The place looked more like a poor man’s spa than anything at this point, he thought, but Luis was self-assured and always got what he wanted, no matter how frivolous it seemed to Leon. It kept them sane, really, to occasionally butt heads over the clutter of products everywhere.
A slight wobble from Luis had Leon shooting a hand out to catch him around the midsection. A crooked smile, one that didn’t quite reach the eyes, graced Luis’s face and he chuckled. “I’m supposed to be taking care of you now, Sancho. Just relax.” Leon didn’t have to say anything to convey a sense of worry, but it was quick to be shrugged off.

Luis didn't love that he was being taken off of the Nemesis Project and relocated from Lab 6 to a US Umbrella branch to try and pretend to be some random kid's new father.
But he knew that you don't tell Umbrella no. You do what the company says you should do– no, you do everything they tell you to do and more– or they destroy you. The lucky ones will be taken to Rockfort and executed immediately. The unlucky ones will be used as test subjects or tortured just for the sake of torture.
So Luis stands in a white hallway by a door, holding a backpack and looking down at a piece of paper, trying to muster up the strength to look a child in the eye and blatantly lie to her.
