Summary
Steve glances around, finally remembering the other kids. Max, Lucas, and Mike are crowded around him and Dustin. They’re all wearing similar expressions of horror or panic or confusion, and they all look like they’ve been crying. Actually, Steve realizes, Max and Lucas still haven’t stopped. A terrible feeling takes root in his stomach.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” he asks. He tries to look past them for any sign of danger, but they’re gathered so close in front of him that it’s nearly impossible.

Summary
Jonathan has a nice voice. It’s deep, but never booming. It’s just kind and gentle, sometimes teasing and cynical but very rarely cruel. Steve clings to it like a life preserver.
“Hey, man,” Steve says, and it sounds so far from casual that he has to laugh a little bit. “Sorry to bother you. It's not… I didn't mean to bother you. You don’t have to do anything.”
“Don’t do that,” Jonathan says. His gentle voice sounds tinny coming through the walkie’s speaker.
“Do what?”
“Pull away when you need help.”

Summary
He’s surprised when, as he's sitting on the beach, watching some of the other kids connect with their ilu for the first time, a shadow lands over him to come and disturb the easy blissfulness he’s managed to get himself comfortable in.
He looks up, thinking it’s either Kiri or Lo’ak. His blood freezes in his veins when he sees Neytiri looking down on him, extremely unimpressed. She purses her lips and moves around him to sit next to him. Spider feels his whole body shudder. His skin crawls as his mind is almost screaming at him to run away. She has put more distance between herself than Jake had but she is definitely sitting next to him.
