Summary
The Expedition is over, and while the city celebrates, Gustave can’t shake the chilling feeling that he didn’t come back whole.
Plagued by inexplicable gaps in his memory, a crushing, bone-deep exhaustion, and nightmares that leave him utterly lost, Gustave finds the familiar routines of Lumière unbearable.
He begins to drift away from his old life, seeking solace in the one place where pretense isn't required: the quiet company of a man he is slowly getting to know better.
-
Just a heads up: this story is heavy on the angst at first, but I promise the slow burn kicks in later. Also, please bear with me through the first chapter, I swear the writing gets better 🫣

Summary
Kel didn't understand. Kel was used to not understanding, everyone told him at least once in his life that he was being stupid, that some things were so simple and he should have been able to understand; so, he didn't ask, because he didn't want to be called stupid again.
So, when everyone had cried at least once during the whole ordeal, when Mari was buried and he hadn't shed a single tear, he didn't ask why.
He told himself that he was probably too stupid to understand suffering.

"It started slowly.
But then he couldn't stop anymore."It was known that Karamatsu was usually ignored by his brothers, and he didn't show to care.
But he did.
Smiling became a difficoult task, staying unfazed even more: he didn't ask much, he just really wanted to be noticed; and the way he chose to make them wasn't the healtiest one. -

Summary
His mind couldn't stop going back to the previous day, the previous evening, the day he had ruined one of his friend's eighteenth birthday just because he was reckless enough to mix smoke and alchool as he wished; the shame, the shame lingered on him, he felt like he was trying to hide his true self wearing a costume, but it was broken and shredded, so if anyone watched closely they would see the rotten in him.

Summary
“No.11 Hero Nice Donates 3.5 Million Yuan to Bailuo Children’s Institute,” reads the latest headline, timestamped two minutes ago. Accompanying the article is a dazzling photograph of the man of the hour, perfectly windswept, smiling that vapid smile of his as he shakes hands with an elderly man in a suit.
But… Nice’s smile isn’t the shallow simulacrum of heroism he’s been wearing in recent years. And his eyes—they don’t have that glassy, dead look they usually have, these days. Instead, they sparkle in the sunlight, glittering with determination. With resolve.
The day Nice decides to end it all, another hero figures out what he plans to do. Armed with little more than a half-cocked plan and his wits, he—somewhat reluctantly—jumps to the rescue.

Summary
"This feeling that all my thoughts and memories… that they’re not mine, that they’ve been put into my head by somebody else… does it ever go away?”
It comes out almost pleadingly, the desperation Gustave tried to suppress for months now bleeding into his voice.
Something softens in Verso’s expression.
Or: the Maelle ending. Coming to terms with being brought back and repainted. Gustave is looking for some answers, so he goes to the one person who can provide them. Verso is absolutely done with this life, but feels obligated to at least talk to him.
They find that being a copy of a dead man is less unbearable when you're not alone.
