Her parents didn’t like it when she talked about the things that hovered around people. They didn’t like it when she asked what they argued about after putting her to bed, they knew she shouldn’t be able to hear them, and they hated it when she told them that she could see it, could see the energy their arguments left behind like a thick toxic sludge on the kitchen counters.
Nanami Akiko is 8 when her parents have had enough and call her brother to come and get his sister because they are done with the embarrassment their children have caused them, and if he doesn’t want her then someone else, anyone else, can have her as long as she isn’t their problem anymore.
