At the breakfast table, Jack enthuses about the special limited edition Christmas version of that cookie cereal he always eats—which, as far as Dean can tell, is the exact same as the regular version, only with red and green sprinkles substituting the usual brown specks that represent chocolate chips, and it costs a few cents extra.
Jack’s head pops up as he looks Dean right in the eye and says, blithely, mouth full of cereal, “It’s Christmas Eve.”
Dean frowns. “No it ain’t.”
Sam shoots Dean a look of pure pity. “Yeah, Dean, it is.”
Cas just squints.

Summary

“Wait…” Dean looks between the two of them, and the resemblance is suddenly both strange and obvious. The bright blue eyes, the messy hair. “She’s—”
“He’s wearing my dead dad,” Claire says, voice biting. Cas flinches, but Claire hardly pauses before she rounds on him. “What the fuck is he doing here?”
Cas, unfazed by the rage rolling off of her, turns to Claire. “How was your history presentation?”Follow up from Lost in the Wilderness, it's helpful but not essential to read the first one.

He chases leads and even attempts to hunt on his own, but Mary is AWOL, Crowley refuses to help, and Castiel’s options are running out.
Weeks pass, Castiel’s hope dwindles, and through it all Dean prays, keeping them connected. His voice is comforting, frustrating, and occasionally annoying, but in his solitude Castiel comes to cherish it. But then one day, without warning, Dean stops praying, and Castiel is forced to confront some uncomfortable truths about his feelings.

A week ago, Dean was pulled out of Hell. Now, he’s apparently woken up in 2018, and the angel that a mere twenty-four hours beforehand had threatened to chuck him back into the pit is sleepily pouring himself coffee and wearing Dean’s second-favourite Zeppelin shirt. It all seems like a perfect happy ending, but with Hell’s scars still so fresh, Dean can’t imagine how he could have possibly gotten there.
At the same time, the Dean who went to sleep in the bunker, right next to Cas, wakes up on Bobby’s couch in 2008. He’s instantly bombarded with questions by a Lilith-obsessed brother and a man who’s been dead for years, and must decide between keeping his finally-perfect life intact, and the lives he could save by re-writing history.
Regardless of these choices, both Deans are trapped in the wrong decade, and their only way back lies with a Castiel still very much under Heaven’s thumb – one who might find the future Dean describes difficult to believe.

Summary

Unfortunately, Dean Winchester is nothing if not stubborn.
He sucks on his teeth for a moment, roughly picks up his duffel, and slings it over his shoulder as he storms past Cas in the doorway with a bite of, “Go get in the damn car,”.
(TLDR: Cas is rescued from the empty, human. Dean wants to stop hunting because he loves Cas, but can't figure out how to let himself; however, he doesn't want Cas to hunt either, because he loves him. Conflict, angstiness, and love ensues.)

A large warm hand was holding Dean’s shoulder, shaking him lightly.
“Dean.”
Dean swatted at the hand, mildly surprised when it didn’t let go. People usually gave him a wide berth when he was asleep now, unsure what reaction he'd have from being woken up suddenly. The hand dug in harder, could feel the blunt fingertips push in under his collar bone.
“Dean, come on.”
Dean opened his eyes, ready to tell off Cas or Sam— whoever it was— for waking him so soon after he lay down. John Winchester stared down at him, brows knotted together with a grim look. Dean nearly launched himself backwards off the bed, banging his head sharply on the motel headboard and pressing himself bodily against it— far away as possible from the spectre in front of him.
