Summary
There used to be a church in the middle of the woods. It wasn't anything big or grand, but it was nice. Cozy. Safe. There was a friendly groundskeeper named Nicholas who would always greet the children with a smile and a lollipop, and the kids loved him, sometimes playing with him after mass. Sometimes, the children would play with a big black dog, more akin to a wolf, on the grounds instead, Nicholas nowhere in sight.
There used to be a church in the middle of the woods. Until the raid.

Summary
Vash snorted a laugh as he grabbed his keys and wallet, hurrying out the door of his apartment. For whatever reason, out of the entire crew of his brother's aquarium and oceanic wildlife rehabilitation center, Vash was the only one able to talk down and calm aggressive and frightened Mers. His coworkers started calling it his magic touch, or the Mer Whisperer because of it.

Summary
It was supposed to be a simple, quiet day. They had found a quiet little no-name town, the people were friendly, the legends of Vash the Stampede nothing more than a myth, and plenty of opportunities to help out for some spare double dollars.

He was leaning back in his chair, the front two legs off the ground and the bottle of whiskey dangling between his fingers. He seemed nonchalant, almost bored, but Meryl could see the way his arms flexed with tension, how he avoided her gaze as he stared up at a spot on the ceiling.

“Since when the hell did you have a 𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘬?” Wolfwood demands, feeling a bit crazy as Vash ducks his head and tries to hide his face by turning it to stare at the wall. “Is that seriously what that is? Are you 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥?”
“This is from earlier!” Vash swore back, face as red as his coat, neck bent and nearly nose-to-nose. “Give me a break, I’m not used to this!”
